14-Year-Old Girl Dies Of Cancer But Wins Court Case To Be Cryogenically Frozen

Story out of London, England:

A 14-year-old girl who died of cancer has been cryogenically frozen in the hope that she can be “woken up” and cured in the future after winning a landmark court case in her final days.

The girl’s divorced parents had disagreed over whether her wish to be frozen should be followed, so the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, asked a High Court judge to intervene.

In a heartbreaking letter to the court, she said: “I don’t want to die but I know I am going to...I want to live longer...I want to have this chance.”

Shortly before her death in a London hospital on October 17, in what is believed to be a unique case, the judge granted JS her wish. Her body was frozen and taken to a storage facility in the US. She is one of only 10 Britons to have been frozen, and the only British child. Cont.

What Are The Odds? - Tragically Hip Cover Band Singer Battles Cancer

Darren Sawchuk a Winnipeg lawyer who plays in a Tragically Hip cover band 59 Divide, says he has more than a melody in common with his musical idol: Sawchuk also has untreatable cancer.

"When you hear lyrics to Ahead by a Century … really, those that are given a warning signal that you only have a certain amount of time left, you do what you can during that time to make the most of every day," he said.

In May, the band announced on its website that Gord Downie, the lead singer and lyricist of the iconic Canadian rock band, has terminal brain cancer. The band nevertheless went ahead with planning a cross-country tour in support of their album Man Machine Poem and will play in Winnipeg on Friday. Cont.

Facebook Censors Cancer Patient's Post

A terminally ill woman has hit out at Facebook after a “potentially life-saving” photograph showing one of her nipples was removed from her page.

Rowena Kincaid, who has secondary stage-four breast cancer, said the decision to remove the image could prevent thousands of people from learning about the symptoms of the disease.

When she was diagnosed in October 2013, she was told she had three to six months to live. The picture editor, from Cardiff, initially defied doctors’ expectations but her health is now deteriorating.

On 23 January Ms Kincaid posted a photograph of her right breast, showing a blotchy red rash around her nipple. Breast cancer can present itself in many ways, she explained, not necessarily around the nipple, but anywhere in the chest or breast area. “Any rash on the breast [or] chest that doesn’t go away, or seems to be growing should be investigated,” she wrote.

Within two hours the photograph had made 72,000 “impressions”, but, Ms Kincaid claimed, when she tried to log on later that day she was notified that the image had been taken down as it violated Facebook’s code of practice. Cont.
