Murder-Suicide Suspected In Death Of 5 Family Members Including 6-Year-Old

Story out of Oakdene Downs, Ireland:

Gardaí are treating the death of a family of five in Co Cavan as a murder-suicide.

Gardaí were called to a house in the townland of Barconey outside Ballyjamesduff where the bodies of a couple and their three children were discovered.

The man was in his 40s and the woman in her 30s. Their three sons were 13, 11 and six. The family were well known in the area.

Gardaí say the alarm was raised at about 10.45am when someone called to the house and became suspicious. They contacted gardaí and a search of the house was conducted.

Three bodies were found upstairs and two downstairs.

No firearms were found in the house. Cont.

Elvis Impersonating Priest Sentenced To Two Years For Raping Boy With Crucifix In The 80s

A Catholic priest who raped a boy in the 1980s with a crucifix has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Anthony (Tony) Walsh, 63, who first gained notoriety in Britain and Ireland through his Elvis impersonations as part of Father Michael Cleary’s All Priests Show was found guilty of forcing the child to have sex twice.

The first incident happened in the parochial house in his parish and on another occasion in a tunnel under Dublin’s Phoenix Park, where he raped the child with a holy cross.

The victim, who was ten when the abuse began, said that he was happy with the outcome but “exhausted and drained” after the three-day trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, according to ()The Times. “It will take some time to process the whole thing,” he added.

The jury of two women and ten men returned verdicts of guilty on all counts after approximately one hour of deliberation following a three-day trial.

Walsh, who is already serving a 17 and a half year sentence for sexual offences against other children committed the offense, and two other rapes on the same young victim, before new legislation came into effect in 1990, meaning that the longest sentence the judge can impose on each offence is two years. Cont. (Video)

Canada's Ambassador To Ireland Tackles Protester During Ceremony

Every one else was standing around like dullards. Sure, it looked a little silly but there shouldn't be an issue with what he did.

Canada's ambassador to Ireland, the man hailed as a hero for shooting Ottawa gunman Michael Zehaf-Bibeau after he stormed Parliament Hill in 2014, tackled a protester at a ceremony in Dublin Thursday morning.

Kevin Vickers, the former House of Commons sergeant-at-arms, was at the event commemorating the 100 British soldiers who died during the Easter Rising, also called the Easter Rebellion, when Irish republicans tried to overthrow British control of the country by force.

A male protester, wearing an Easter Rising T-shirt, stood up during the invitation-only event and could be heard yelling, "This is an insult."

Vickers was the first to respond to the disturbance, tackling the man and leading him away from the ceremony. Police later arrested the protester. Cont.

MMA Fighter Joao Carvalho Dies After Fight

Story out of Dublin, Ireland:

A mixed martial arts fighter from Portugal died Tuesday, three days after being hospitalized with injuries from a fight.

Total Extreme Fighting announced the death of Joao Carvalho. It didn’t disclose the nature of Carvalho’s injuries, and said formal hospital medical reports and procedures are still being carried out.

The 28-year-old Carvalho was knocked out in the third round of a welterweight fight against Charlie Ward at the National Stadium in Dublin on Saturday. TEF said Carvalho was assessed by doctors and medical staff at the onsite medical office “as per normal procedure,” before being taken to the hospital. Cont.
