A Palm Coast man accused of beating an 8-year-old boy and threatening to feed him to alligators was arrested Thursday and charged with child abuse.
Dereck Dunn, 28, of Kings Colony Court, remained jailed late Thursday afternoon on $7,500 bail, records show.
According to a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office report, the boy told deputies that Dunn took him to a pond behind their home Tuesday and threatened to feed him to alligators. He said when they returned inside the home, Dunn punched him in the face, mushed his face into the carpet to the point he couldn’t breath, and struck him several times on the butt with a belt.
Deputies noted scars on the boy’s eye socket, arms, legs and buttocks. Dunn, who said he’s 5 feet, 9 inches, 300 pounds and very strong, told deputies he was only joking when he picked the boy up and threatened to throw him in the pond and feed him to alligators. Cont.
