"Apologetic Tone" - Husband Leaves Note After Killing Wife, Burying Her In Shallow Grave

Story out of Fairfield, Maine:

Valerie Tieman’s body was wrapped in a patterned blanket and buried in a shallow grave of freshly turned soil in the woods behind the house in Fairfield where she and her husband had been living.

Beneath her body were a bag of potato chips, a bottle of perfume and a note that “reportedly has an apologetic tone,” according to an autopsy report by the state Medical Examiner’s Office that was obtained Monday by the Morning Sentinel under a public records request.

Police say Valerie Tieman, whose body was found Sept. 20, was shot in the head and neck by her husband and he then buried her near the house where they had been living with his parents.

A toxicology report accompanying the autopsy report also revealed that buprenorphine and tramadol were found in Valerie Tieman’s system.

The day her body was found, Luc Tieman told police his wife had overdosed on heroin as he watched.

"Socialist C*cksucker" - Maine's Republican Governor Mental Competency Questioned After Tirade

Maine’s bombastic Republican governor has built a reputation on his unfiltered comments, but his obscene tirade unleashed on a liberal lawmaker prompted Democratic lawmakers Friday to warn that the governor was coming unhinged and to call for a political intervention.

Gov. Paul LePage apologized to “the people of Maine” – but not to the legislator – after he left a voicemail message for Democratic Rep. Drew Gattine that said “I am after you” and then told reporters he wished he could challenge Gattine to a duel and point a gun “right between his eyes.”

The voicemail followed a controversy that bubbled up Wednesday when LePage, who’s white, said at a town hall in North Berwick that photos he’s collected in a binder of drug dealers arrested in the state showed that 90 per cent of them “are black and Hispanic people from Waterbury, Connecticut; the Bronx; and Brooklyn.” He displayed the binder at a Friday news conference.

“I want you to prove that I’m a racist,” LePage told Gattine in the voicemail Thursday, adding that he had spent his life helping black people and calling Gattine a vulgar name related to oral sex.

Gattine said he was stunned to receive the voicemail. “My first thought after I listened is I’m really glad I’m not in the room. He sounded like if I’d been in the room with him that he’d be attacking me physically,” he said.

House and Senate Democrats and the Maine Democratic Party on Friday questioned LePage’s capacity to lead. LePage said he would not resign unless several of his political opponents, including Gattine, did as well. Cont. (Video)

Man Kills Neighbour With Machete After Six Pack Of Beer Stolen

Story out of Limington, Maine:

A Limington man ended a long-running dispute with his neighbor by killing him with a machete and then covering his body with rotting deer carcasses, police said.

Bruce Akers, 57, appeared briefly in York County Superior Court in Alfred on a charge of murder Monday. He entered the courtroom flanked by his attorneys, his head down, and was ordered held without bail, which is common in murder cases.

A affidavit by Maine State Police Detective Corey Pike described the grisly attack Akers allegedly carried out on his neighbor, Douglas Flint, over the weekend.

The detective wrote that Akers and Flint, who lived next to each other on Ossipee Trail, had previous run-ins, including incidents in which Akers trespassed on Flint’s property and in one instance, bathed in Flint’s pool.

Akers first called the York County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday because he believed Flint had stolen a six-pack of beer from him, along with other items. Cont.

Man Charged With Murder After Giving Homeowner Heart Attack While Trying To Break In

Authorities have charged an accused burglar with felony murder more than one year after 62-year-old Connie Loucks died of a heart attack during an attempted burglary at her home in Wells.

Carlton L. Young, 24, of Sanford was indicted Tuesday by a York County grand jury on a felony murder charge for Loucks’ death on March 25, 2015. Felony murder, a lesser charge than murder, is punishable by up to 30 years in prison. Murder carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 25 years. Cont.

"Thanks, idiots" - Gov. Paul R. LePage Walks Off Stage After Silent Protest By Two Students

Gov. Paul R. LePage, reacting to signs held up by students at the University of Maine at Farmington on Tuesday, walked off the outdoor stage mid-speech at the dedication of the new Education Center.

"I'm done," LePage said, after offering a couple of lines from the greetings he intended to offer.

LePage was among the guests invited to speak at the ceremony to dedicate the center to former UMF President Theodora J. Kalikow.

He stopped abruptly and walked away from the lectern. The incident happened so quickly, most in the audience appeared to be unaware of what was happening.

"Thanks, idiots," LePage said, waving to the protesters as he walked past a large crowd of faculty, staff, students and community members who had gathered to honor Kalikow. Cont. (Video)

Man Arrested After Telling Mother He Committed Murder 36-Years Ago

It’s been nearly 36 years since 16-year-old Joyce McLain went out for a jog in East Millinocket and didn’t make it home…she was murdered.

Friday, Maine State Police arrested Philip Scott Fournier in connection with the death.

In that affidavit it states that Fournier told his mother Anita Powers he killed her.

She told police he said quote  “I am sorry momma.  I did it. I killed Joyce McLain” Powers said that he then began to cry and said – “I didn’t mean to.” Cont. (Video)

Maine Gov. Paul LePage Says His State Should Bring Back The Guillotine

Maine Gov. Paul LePage says his state is too easy on drug crimes, suggesting it should bring back the guillotine for serious offenders.

The Republican governor, known for his controversial statements, was speaking on local radio Tuesday about combating the drug epidemic in his state.

"What I think we ought to do is bring the guillotine back," he told WVOM. "We could have public executions and have, you know, we could even have (guessing) which hole it falls in."

It's only the latest controversial comments from LePage. Earlier this month, he made waves talking about drug dealers in his state.

"These are guys with the name D-Money, Smoothie, Shifty," he said. "They come from Connecticut and New York, they come up here, they sell their heroin, then they go back home. Incidentally, half the time they impregnate a young, white girl before they leave." Cont. (Video)

The Governor Of Maine Said Something So Offensive He May Be Impeached

Gov. Paul LePage has drawn widespread condemnation for a racially charged comment he made during one of his regular town hall meetings to promote his policy agenda in Bridgton on Wednesday night.

About 30 minutes into the meeting, which was rebroadcast Thursday night, LePage responded to a question about how he was tackling substance abuse in Maine. He began talking about how much of the heroin is coming into Maine from out-of-state drug dealers.

“These are guys with the name D-Money, Smoothie, Shifty – these types of guys – they come from Connecticut and New York, they come up here, they sell their heroin, they go back home,” LePage told a large crowd. “Incidentally, half the time they impregnate a young, white girl before they leave, which is a real sad thing because then we have another issue we have to deal with down the road.”

LePage’s comments quickly flashed across social media and online news sites around the nation Thursday night, being picked up by the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, the Huffington Post, MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow Show” and Buzzfeed, to name a few. Cont. (Video)
