2-Year-Old Found Dead In Hot Car Still Strapped To Baby Seat

Story out of Salisbury, North Carolina:

Police in Salisbury are investigating after a toddler was found deceased inside a vehicle at the W.A. Hefner VA Medical Center Thursday.

When officers arrived, they said they "forcibly entered a black Chevrolet passenger car and retrieved the child who was strapped in her car seat."

CPR was administered until fire and EMS arrived, but the 2-year-old female was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Captain Shelia Lingle of the Salisbury Police Department said that the child had been left in the car since approximately 7:55 am and not discovered until 4:30 pm.

Lingle pointed out that when the outside temperature is 74 degrees, the temperature inside of a closed car can reach in excess of 125 degrees.

If it is determined that the child died from hyperthermia, it would be the third such death in North Carolina this year and the 37th in the United States, Lingle said, citing research.

Officials said the mother of the child, whose name has not been released, worked at the facility. Cont. (Video/Autoplay)
