Man Melts To Death At Yellowstone Hot Springs

Story out of Yellowstone, Oregon:

Details have emerged about the Portland man who died in a Yellowstone hot spring in June, who was allegedly looking to "hot pot" in the park.

Colin Nathaniel Scott, a 23-year-old Portland resident, and his sister walked about 225 yards off the boardwalk near Pork Chop Geyser at the Norris Geyser Basin, looking for a place to "hot pot" or soak in an extremely hot natural spring.

While Scott was bending over to check the temperature of a spring, according to the report, he slipped and fell in, succumbing quickly to the boiling acidic water.

Scott's sister recorded the accident on her cell phone, officials wrote in the report, but the park has refused to release that video to the public.

Scott was not the first, and won't likely be the last victim of Yellowstone's gorgeous but dangerous geothermal features. The hot springs have claimed 22 lives since 1890, according to the park, far more than have been killed by grizzly bears or lightning strikes. Cont.

Woman Given $30 And A Note Explaining Her Car Was Accidentally Stolen

Story out of Portland, Oregon:

As it turns out, it was not grand theft auto, but merely a case of mistaken identity.

Erin Hatzi’s 2001 red Subaru vanished from her Portland, Ore., driveway Tuesday night. So she reported it stolen.

The couple’s home security camera captured a woman calmly walking up to the car, getting in and starting it up. After a few minutes, she drove away.

Less than 24 hours later, the red vehicle was back, parked in front of the couple’s house. Portland Police Department officers just happened to be driving by and noticed the car and ran its plates.

Inside the “stolen” vehicle police found $30 in cash and a note:

"Hello, So sorry I stole your car. I sent my friend with my key to pick up my red Subaru at 7802 SE Woodstock and she came back with your car. I did not see the car until this morning and I said, 'That is not my car.' There is some cash for gas and I more than apologize for the shock and upset this must have caused you. The president of a Medford police union said he used “poor judgment” when he posed for a photograph with a person dressed in a Hillary Clinton orange prison-inspired costume that went viral on social media.

Harold MacGilvray of the Medford Police Patrolmen’s Association said the photo was taken spontaneously during a community festival on Saturday afternoon and was “absolutely not” taken to make a political statement.

Father Murders His Two Children Then Self In Murder Suicide

Story out of Beaverton, Oregon:

Two children are dead after an apparent murder-suicide in Beaverton Wednesday afternoon.

The shooter was 36-year-old Lakalo Kawika Enfield, who police say killed his 6-year-old son Lakalo Vergara Enfield  and 8-year-old daughter Lehua Elaysea Enfield before turning the gun on himself.

A female relative reportedly called 911 after she found the victims inside their apartment.

When officers arrived, they found what appeared to be 3 dead victims.

“We believed at the time that the adult male was absolutely deceased due to the injury and trauma to him,” officer Jeremy Shaw said.

Per police protocol, they backed out of the apartment to avoid contaminating the murder scene. From outside, officers heard rustling followed by a single gunshot.

The tactical negotiation team later reentered the apartment and confirmed that all 3 people were dead. Investigators believe the man woke up and took his own life. Cont. (Video)

Vile Racist Pepper Sprays 3 Black Children

Story out of Portland, Oregon: 

A black Portland family says they were accosted in Northeast Portland this week by a cyclist who used a racial slur as he shot pepper spray at three children.

The incident near NE Killingsworth and 9th, details of which have been circulating on social media, was officially confirmed this morning by the Portland Police Bureau in a news release.

The bureau would not release a police report on the incident, citing an open investigation, but says Patricia Garner, 62, and her daughter Foia Frazer, 32, were getting Frazer's 12, 11, and 7-year-old kids in the car on Tuesday when a white or Hispanic man on a bike rolled past.

"The suspect turned around northbound, riding back by the car and sprayed the kids with pepper spray," the release says. "Garner reported to police that the man yelled a racial epithet at them as he pepper sprayed the kids then rode away."

Neighbor Laurel Carrasco tells the Mercury that one of the children, a 12-year-old boy, was transported to the hospital after the assault.

Police are treating the report as a "bias crime," the same class of crime prosecutors filed this week against a white supremacist gang member who ran down a black teen in Gresham on August 10. Cont.

Pastor On Trial For Making, Distributing Child Pornography Would Take Boys To National Parks Across Western US

A 56-year-old Portland, Ore., pastor and former national youth camp official for the United Methodist Church made his initial appearance Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Denver on felony charges for allegedly producing child pornography while taking boys to national parks in Colorado and across the West, authorities say.

James Parkhurst, 56, who was arrested in Portland on Aug. 2, was indicted in late August by a federal grand jury in Denver and appeared in federal court on Monday, according to a news release by Assistant Attorney General Leslie Caldwell of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division and Acting U.S. Attorney Bob Troyer of the District of Colorado.

Parkhurst produced 163 child pornography images of five boys taken at national parks in Colorado and across the West and then sent them by U.S. mail to 15 states to child pornography collectors, according to court documents. The images include pictures of nude and partially nude boys between the ages of 9 and 12, some while the boys took baths or as they urinated.

The Oregon-Idaho Conference Board of Camp and Retreat Ministries named Parkhurst as its executive director in 2015, according to a board new release. Parkhurst, a United Methodist deacon and a native of Kentucky, attended and worked at camps throughout his life, the news release says. It said he was also a camp director in Detroit, overseeing four sites. He oversaw the camping and youth ministries for the Desert Southwest Conference for over a decade and was the vice chairman of the church’s national camp committee. Cont.

"Get Him, Baby" - Woman Cheers On White Supremacist Boyfriend As He Runs Down, Kills Black Man

Russell Courtier, 38, and his girlfriend Colleen Hunt, 35, pulled their red Jeep Wrangler up to the 7-Eleven on the corner of East Burnside and 188th just before midnight on August 10. The convenience store was only a few blocks from the apartment complex where the couple lived with Courtier’s parents.

Outside, a young man named Larnell Bruce, half Courtier’s age, was charging his cell phone at an outlet along the wall, a female acquaintance later told police. He had moved to Gresham to live with his mother and his young brother six months earlier.

Within moments, a full-on fistfight had ensued—the white Courtier and African American Bruce swinging at each other and wrestling.

“Get him, baby,” Hunt urged her boyfriend, “Get him, baby!”

Courtier smashed Bruce’s head into the store’s front window, cracking a pane of glass. The 7-Eleven clerk dialed 911. When Bruce pulled out what cops described as a machete, Courtier stopped fighting with his fists. Instead, he and Hunt got back in the Jeep—the weapon they’d use to kill the 19-year-old as he fled on foot.

The couple turned left out of the parking lot, trying to run Bruce down. They missed the first time, as the teen turned to run the other way on the sidewalk.

According to a prosecutor’s affidavit, Courtier turned and chased Bruce “across oncoming lanes of traffic and then intentionally struck him with the front of the vehicle.” Police showed up within moments, finding the teen in the middle of the street with blood rushing from his head and ears. He’d be declared dead a couple of days later.

Gresham police spotted the Jeep shortly after it hit Bruce and pulled the pair over. Courtier and Hunt admitted to intentionally hitting Bruce, according to police. A grand jury indicted them both for murder on August 18.

Man Arrested After Driving Into Pot Dispensary While High

Story out of Happy Valley, Oregon:

An 18-year-old man was arrested early Sunday on suspicion of driving while high on marijuana after he crashed into a marijuana dispensary in Happy Valley.

Alan Alcantara hit an empty parked car near Stumptown Cannabis on Southeast 82nd Avenue around 1:05 a.m. and then crashed into the back wall of the business, according to a probable cause affidavit. He caused more than $1,000 in damages to the other car and the building, court papers said.

Alcantara's passenger was taken to a hospital with a concussion, and Alcantara admitted to a Clackamas County sheriff's deputy to using marijuana before the crash, the affidavit said. He was booked into the Clackamas County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving, reckless endangering, criminal mischief and fourth-degree assault. Cont.

Possible Squatter Shot Dead After Woman Finds Him In Her Child's Bedroom

Story out of Portland, Oregon:

A Southeast Portland mom shot and killed a man who was found inside one of her children’s bedrooms early Sunday morning, police said.

The 33-year-old woman returned to her home with her 2 kids when she encountered 59-year-old David Daniel McCrary, police said. She reportedly used her own handgun to shoot and kill him.

The woman and her children, ages 5 and 10, were not hurt. She cooperated with investigators and the case will be sent to the Multnomah County DA for review.

Investigators say McCrary has no connection to the family and isn’t from the neighborhood. He doesn’t have a significant criminal history but reportedly struggled with mental health issues in the past, police said.

Neighbor Amber Murray tells KOIN 6 News the home was vacant for a while before the woman and her children moved in. Cont. (Cont.)

Man Arrested After Groping Unaccompanied 13-Year-Old On Flight

An Oregon man stands accused of a federal crime after authorities say he groped a 13-year-old girl while she was unaccompanied on a commercial flight.

Chad Camp was arrested after a Portland-bound flight out of Dallas landed Wednesday night.

According to a criminal complaint, the Gresham man's suspicious behavior began immediately after he boarded the plane and sat directly beside the girl despite an abundance of empty seats on the American Airlines flight.

As he spoke to the girl, the criminal complaint alleges Camp rubbed up against her, nudged her, touched her with his elbow and placed his hands on her knee and upper thigh.

The girl later told investigators she felt "frightened and trapped" next to Camp before a flight attendant told authorities she noticed Camp's hand near her crotch and tears in her eyes.

The flight attendant said she told Camp to change seats, which he did.

Camp was arrested and charged with abusive sexual contact.

Meanwhile, the teen's parents say they plan to sue American Airlines, which charges an extra $150 for unaccompanied minors in part to ensure the safety of the child. Cont.

Man Botches Murder-Suicide After Using Nail Gun

All you ever hear is how easy it is to get a gun in the US, but this bozo finds a nail gun. Story out of Lowell, Oregon:

A Creswell man accused of firing nine nails into a Eugene woman’s head in a botched homicide-suicide told investigators that he had first met the woman just one day before the bizarre incident, when she approached him and said she needed someone to kill her, police say in a report made public this week.

Troy Vance Thompson, 46, gave a detailed statement to Oregon State Police troopers on June 2, one day after he allegedly used a compressed-air nail gun to shoot three-inch nails into the back of the 31-year-old victim’s head.

Thompson spoke to police at a Springfield hospital while he was recovering from an injury he suffered when he fired a single nail into his own head during the June 1 incident off Highway 58 east of Lowell.

The victim’s current condition, meanwhile, is not known. Police said last week that she remained hospitalized in critical condition; a prosecutor and a hospital spokeswoman both said Tuesday that they had no updated information to disclose about the woman. Bike Thief Gets Lassoed By "Lone Ranger"

Story out of Eagle Point, Oregon:

A bike thief was lassoed by a bystander on a horse, catching him in the act.

A Hispanic male adult, now identified as Victorino Arellano-Sanchez, 23 attempted to steal a mountain bicycle outside of a local Walmart store when people in the parking lot began shouting and calling attention to the theft.

A nearby man that had his horse in a trailer took action. The man chased after the thief on horse, who was fleeing, and lassoed the suspect, holding him down until local police arrived.

Witnesses referred to the hero as the "Lone Ranger." His name is Robert Borba. Cont.

Man Forces Teens To Call 911 On Themselves After Being Caught Stealing

Story out of Coos Bay, Oregon:

A homeowner caught three 14-year-olds burglarizing his Coos Bay house on Sunday afternoon, and forced one of the boys to call 9-1-1 to report the attempted theft.

The three boys were all taken to the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Facility on several charges including burglary II, criminal trespassing, and marijuana possession.

The homeowner was armed when he found the boys burglarizing his home on Terramar Road, the Coos County Sheriff's Office said. According to emergency dispatchers, he told one of the teens to call police and report the burglary in progress. Cont.

POS Frat Boys Trash National Forest Over Long Weekend

Story out of Eugene, Oregon:

The University of Oregon is responding to photos posted online showing trash that some say was left by students at Lake Shasta in Northern California.

The images surfaced Monday and have since been shared numerous times on social media.

The university says students from schools along the west coast visit the area annually, including fraternities and sororities from the U of O.

The land is part of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.

Dog's Paralysis Cured Moments Before Being Put Down

Story out of Portland, Oregon:

It was a close call for one dog in Oregon, whose owners thought they had to euthanize him until an attentive intern spotted something very small that saved his life.

KPTV reports that the Fate family took their beloved dog, Ollie, to the veterinarian when he suddenly became paralyzed. After a thorough check and no answers, the family had to make a tough decision.

“They finally decided they had reached their limit, and it was time to help him pass. He couldn’t stand, he couldn’t walk, he couldn’t urinate, couldn’t defecate,” said Dr. Adam Stone of the Dove Lewis Animal Hospital, who said the problem could have been caused by a number of issues. “Anything from cancer to trauma, or a fracture of a vertebra or a spinal fracture. Any one of these could have caused similar signs.”

Turns out, none of those issues were causing the little dog’s health problems — it was something much smaller.

As Ollie was in an exam room about to be euthanized, an intern noticed a tick lodged behind his ear.

“He was in the room about to get put to sleep, and it was just pure grace that the people found something and decided to check it out further,” said Ollie’s owner, Falline Fate. “They have a neurotoxin in their saliva that prevents nerve transition to the muscles, and that takes time to build up in the body and cause paralysis like what we saw in Ollie.”

The tick was pulled out, and Ollie was back to his energetic self in just 10 hours. Cont.

Pizza Joint Saves Man After He Doesn't Place Order In 11 Days

Almost daily pizza may be a contributing factor to his poor health, but I could be wrong. Story out of Salem, Oregon:

Who knew ordering pizza several times a week from the same place could end up saving your life? For at least seven years, and almost every day, Kirk Alexander has ordered pizza from his local Domino's Pizza shop in Salem, Oregon. Then he stopped. "It was weird, and not like him at all," Sarah Fuller, the shop's general manager, tells As It Happens host Carol Off.

Alexander hadn't placed an order in eleven days. Fuller sent a delivery truck driver to Alexander's house to check on the customer. The television and lights were on, but no one answered the door.

Fuller then tried calling Alexander's cell phone. The call went straight to voicemail. "So that's when we got definitely worried that something was unusual and weird about the situation."

By then it was 1:00 AM. Fuller called 911. She says the sheriff sent two deputies to Alexander's home. "I guess they could hear him inside, yelling for help. So they broke down the door and the paramedics got in and got him down to the hospital."

Fuller says they're not sure what was wrong with Alexander, or how long he'd been in trouble before the paramedics arrived. She says Alexander had told them that he'd had health problems because of minor strokes in the past.
Fuller says she and some of the drivers have visited Alexander a number of times in the hospital to check on him.

"He's doing good and he answers yes and no questions right now. He said he's feeling better and he smiles at us." Cont.

Woman Arrested For Molesting Another Woman On Plane

A 26-year-old Banks woman was arrested at PDX for sexually abusing a woman on a flight from Las Vegas Sunday night, officials said.

Heidi McKinney was arrested when Alaska Airlines flight 621 landed in Portland around 9:20 p.m., according to police documents. Police were reportedly alerted to the alleged crime while the plane was still en route to PDX.

The 26-year-old woman was taken into custody after investigators looked into accusations she touched another woman on her breast and genitals without consent.

McKinney was held for 3rd-degree sex abuse in Multnomah County Jail. She bailed out of jail later Monday afternoon and no complaint was filed against her, police said. Cont.

Meth Head Tips Prostitute With "Gooey" The Bush Baby

Story out of Eugene, Oregon:

An Oregon man robbed his own pet store in Eugene and used one of the items, a nocturnal primate, to give to a prostitute as a tip.

According to Eugene police, a burglary was reported at the Zany Zoo pet store on two days in March. The store is owned by Nathan Allen McClain.

Girl Scout cookie money, a laptop and a Galago primate named “Gooey” were stolen, police said. Galagos are also known as “bush babies” and are native to Africa.

 On March 17, police found Gooey with an out-of-town prostitute at a hotel in the Eugene area.      

Then, on March 19, Oregon State Police arrested McClain in the parking lot of the OSP office in Albany because he walked out of a porn shop next door to the police department and was apparently under the influence of methamphetamine.

ISIL And Nazi Sympathizer Joins Oregon Militants To Help With Technology

While militant leader Ammon Bundy has repeatedly denied government computers were being used by militants, OPB has again confirmed that Department of Interior computers at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge are being accessed, and in this instance, being used to make a website for the occupation.

One of the militants occupying the refuge posted video of himself using the computer.

Occupier David Fry said he drove from Ohio – through a blinding winter storm – to help Bundy and his supporters.

“It was (a) miracle, that I got here,” Fry said Tuesday. “I’ve had quarrels with the government myself, and I feel there has to be some point where people have to put their foot down against the problems.”

Fry’s Google+ account shows the Ohio man regularly posts anti-Semitic, homophobic, and pro-Nazi propaganda on social media.
