Man Jailed After Feeding Dog Cocaine, Ripping His Ears Off With Pliers

Story out of Wrexham, Wales:

Christopher Griffiths carried out the ‘deliberate and planned operation’ on his Staffordshire bull terrier, Victor, last September.

He’s now been jailed for 24 weeks for the cruelty which took place at his home in Wrexham and banned from keeping animals for 10 years.

Griffiths, 35, denied what he had done but was found guilty after being taken to trial by the RSPCA.

Two of his other dogs, Ned and Brandy, were also taken into care of the charity.

Prosecutor Glen Murphy said officers went to Griffiths’ home after reports he had been assaulted and found significant amounts of blood at the scene.

Victor was placid despite his injuries, possibly due to the effects of cocaine which was found in the dog’s urine.

Griffiths claimed he had been attacked because he had refused to allow drugs to be stored at his home and while he was on the ground, his assailant used the pliers to remove Victor’s ears.

Victor was taken to an emergency vet and showed no signs of anxiety or aggression during examination, as well as only low levels of pain.

District judge Gwyn Jones said: It is clear this was a deliberate and planned operation which would have taken some time to exact. Cont.
