Man Who Murdered Two Cops Over Confederate Flag Is Trump Supporter

Story out of Des Moines, Iowa:

The man charged with gunning down two Iowa police officers while they sat in their cars has a history of arguing with the police over the confederate flag and harassing African Americans. In addition, he had a Trump sign posted in the front yard of the home he shared with his mother and recently obtained a restraining order against her.

Scott Michael Greene, a 46-year-old Iowa man, allegedly ambushed two Des Moines metro police officers early Wednesday morning. The Des Moines Register reports that Greene gunned them down without warning as they sat two miles apart in their patrol cars.

Scott Michael Greene lived in Urbandale, a suburb of Des Moines, in a home owned by his mother. Neighbors report that he posted a large Trump sign in his front yard about two weeks prior to the shootings.

Heavy reports that a man named Scott Greene, who matches the description of the suspect, recorded himself being kicked out of an Urbandale football game about two weeks prior to the shootings. The stadium is at the intersection where Officer Martin was killed. Cont. (Video)

"The Polls Are Rigged" - Woman Caught Voting Twice For Trump

Story out of Des Moines, Iowa:

A Des Moines woman has been charged with Election Misconduct, a Class D felony, after allegedly voting twice for GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump. Terri Rote says she was afraid her first ballot for Trump would be changed to a vote for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

"I wasn't planning on doing it twice, it was spur of the moment," says Rote. "The polls are rigged."

But Polk County Attorney John Sarcone says voter fraud in Iowa is very rare, which is evidence that Iowa’s election system is secure.

Rote was released from jail on Friday on a $5,000 bond. If convicted, she faces up to five years in prison. Cont.

Priest Arrested For Watching Students Use Bathroom

Again. Story out of Pottawattanie County, Iowa:

A well-known Iowa priest is accused of invasion of privacy nudity.

The priest is accused of watching five students use the bathroom in April.

Father Paul Monahan, 83, was suspended as the chaplain of St. Albert's Catholic School after being arrested Thursday for five counts of invasion of privacy nudity.

Because Father Monahan is well known in Pottawattamie County, the state attorney general's office is investigating to avoid a conflict of interest,” said Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jeffery Danker.

"You don't want there to be anybody saying, ‘well, they got treated too harshly or got treated too lightly because of who he is,’" Danker said.

Monahan has a long history at St. Albert as a teacher, principal and chaplain. Cont. (Video/Autoplay)

University Football Player Held At Gun Point By Police While Playing Pokemon GO

Surprised at how Tentacool this guy is with the whole situation. Story out of Iowa City, Iowa:

A University of Iowa football player says he was playing "Pokemon Go" in a public park when he was mistaken for a suspected bank robber, surrounded by police and searched at gunpoint.

Faith Ekakitie wrote on Facebook that he feared for his life Wednesday in Iowa City. He explained that a bank had been robbed nearby and that he matched the suspect's description of a "large black male, wearing all black, with something on top of his head." He said he was wearing goggles on his head at the time.

Ekakitie said he understands why police did what they did, and that he blames the media for fearing for his life. He said he had headphones in and didn't respond to police commands. He thanked Iowa City police for their professionalism.

A police spokesman chalks up the episode to "unfortunate timing."

Tensions between police and the African American community have been high in recent weeks, with a series of shootings of police officers, as well as unarmed black men by police. Cont.

Vandals Deface 'Freedom Rock' Over Memorial Day Weekend

Story out of Cedar Falls, Iowa:

Police say someone vandalized the Freedom Rock, a monument dedicated to honoring veterans, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, over Memorial Day weekend.

"I think there's a lot of veterans especially happening on Memorial weekend who are extremely disheartened by the fact that somebody would not even contemplate what this means to those people," Mary Carlson, an area resident, told KWWL-TV.

More than just a tribute, the Freedom Rock is a powerful illustration of the cost of war. The words of honor are now illegible, barely able to make out.

Police say it happened overnight but because there are no surveillance cameras in that area, they don't know who did it. Cont.

Court Rules Slipknot's Bassist Paul Gray's Daughter Can Sue Doctor Over Wrongful Death Even Though She Was A Fetus At The Time

Story out of Des Moines, Iowa:

The daughter of the late Slipknot bassist Paul Gray can sue a doctor for the loss of her father’s companionship, even though she was still a fetus when he died, the Iowa Supreme Court ruled Friday.

The court acknowledged it’s the first time it’s had to decide such a case centred on the rights of a child during the time it is a fetus, but it cited similar conclusions in cases from Massachusetts and Wisconsin. The justices warned that it would be a mistake for anyone to try to apply the rationale behind the ruling to the abortion debate.

The ruling comes in a case centred on the death of Gray, who was found dead in a suburban Des Moines hotel room in May 2010. An autopsy showed he died of an overdose of morphine and fentanyl, a synthetic pain killer similar to morphine. He was 38.

His wife Brenna Gray, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Dr, Daniel Baldi and several medical care providers claiming Paul Gray wasn't properly monitored during drug addiction treatment,. she sued for loss of spousal consortium and on behalf of her daughter who wasn't born until several months after Gray died.

Lower courts dismissed the case, saying Brenna Gray filed the lawsuit more that two years after her husbands's death, exceeding the state's statute of limitations for such lawsuits. The high court upheld the dismissal for Brenna Gray's lawsuit Friday, agreeing that she waited too long, but it ruled that their daughter, identified only as O.D.G., can pursue damages. Cont.

Man Drives Drunk To Job Interview For Cab Driver

Yes, but did he get the job? Story out of Des Moines, Iowa:

An Iowa man made a poor first impression when he allegedly showed up drunk to a job interview to become a cab driver.

Instead of leaving with a new job, Ryan Dickson exited Trans Iowa in handcuffs.

“I just get out there and a little white car comes pulling in and smashes into one of our driver’s cars,” Trans Iowa dispatcher Barbara Freeborn told KCCI.

“I go in and he’s standing in there and I’m like ‘Sir, have you been helped?’ and he like couldn’t comprehend what I was saying.”

Des Moines Police said Dickson was so intoxicated he was unable to finish a field sobriety test.

“With the blood alcohol content that he had, he’s definitely a danger at that moment,” said Sgt. Paul Parizek of the Des Moines Police Dept. “So, we’re glad that we were able to get up there and get this guy in custody at that time.” Cont. (Video)

Crackpot Senator Wants To Make Abortion A Hate Crime

Story out of Iowa:

In case you missed it, an Iowa state senator argued on the Senate floor this week for a measure to make abortion a “hate crime” under the Iowa statute. A hate crime against a group that doesn't even exist in society: The unborn.

Adel’s Republican Sen. Jake Chapman raised the proposal as an amendment to Senate File 2284. That bill being considered would add gender identity and gender expression to the list of protected classes covered by the state’s hate crimes law. The law brings enhanced penalties for crimes committed out of hatred on the basis of a victim's immutable characteristics, such as race, religion and sexual orientation. It applies to groups recognized for protection under Iowa’s civil rights law.

The bill protecting transgender people is backed by a long list of church, civic and law enforcement groups. It took on added symbolic urgency because the previous week, Kedarie Johnson, a 16-year-old Burlington High School junior described as female-to-male transgender, was shot to death in an alleyway, and was buried Wednesday. No arrests have been made. But Chapman instead used the debate to make a case against abortion, by trying to apply hate crimes law to "the unborn." He went into unnecessary details on the Senate floor about the mechanics of abortion, even ignoring Senate President Pam Jochum's admonitions that the details were irrelevant. Cont.

High Schoolers Chant Trump's Name At Basketball Game To Intimidate Latino Players

Story out of Perry, Iowa:

At Monday night’s game at Perry High School against Dallas Center-Grimes, opposing fans used Trump’s disdain for illegal immigrants to target several players of Latino descent.

"We are all aware of racism, it's alive and well in small portions but it's alive and well and it's just hurtful to see that's what they resort to,” said Kevin Lopez, Perry Student Section Leader.

Chants like “Trump, Trump, Trump” and "USA" were said.

According to players, chants like, “Trump, Trump, Trump,” were said and they were trying to intimidate Perry players by reciting things Trump has said about what he plans to do with immigrants and their children if he is elected. Cont.

Iowa Republicans Pass Bill Allowing Children To Handle Guns

With broad bipartisan support, the Iowa House today passed a series of gun rights bills, which were sharply opposed by some minority Democrats.

The bills now go to the Senate and an uncertain future.

The sharpest opposition came on a bill to allow children under 14 to handle handguns under a parent’s supervision.

There would be no age limit under the bill. Cedar Rapids Democrat Kirsten Running-Marquardt asked what kind of gun would fit into the hands of a two or three year old.

While members of the NRA and the Iowa Firearms Coalition looked on, by wide margins the House also passed bills to keep weapons permits confidential, and to allow loaded guns on snowmobiles. Cont.

Chris Christie Slams Michelle Obama's Nutrition Policy

In a shocking revelation Chris Christie came out against Michelle Obama's anti-obesity initiative. Story out of Council Bluffs, Iowa:

A Nebraska fifth grader's complaint about the flavor of his school lunch during a town hall provoked Gov. Chris Christie to lash out at President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama's six-year-old childhood nutrition and anti-obesity initiative, "Let's Move!"

Many at the Village Inn diner where Christie — a Republican presidential candidate — was holding his town hall Monday wanted to know about the governor's position on entitlement reform, drug sentencing, or ISIS.

But Jacob Loyal, a fifth-grader who lives just across the Missouri River in Nebraska, had a different and highly specific question.

"What are you going to do about the lunches?" demanded the 11-year-old sandy-haired boy.

Jacob lamented that his beloved beef and pork crispitos had deteriorated in both flavor and size "now that Michelle Obama is the lunch lady."

"The first lady has no business being involved," Christie said. "We agree. If she wants to give her her opinions on what people should eat for breakfast, lunch or dinner, that's fine. She can give her opinion. ... But using the government to mandate her point of view on what people should be eating every day, is none of her business." Cont.

According to the story the crowd applauded loudly, and then I assume became very winded.
