Priest Gambles Away $500,000 Meant For Refugee Families

"Gambling is the finest thing a person can do, if he's good at it." - The Simpsons. Story out of London, Ontario:

The priest of a small London church is suspended, in treatment and under investigation after telling his bishop he gambled away nearly $500,000 given to him by families who thought he was holding it for refugee relatives, the bishop said Monday.

Among those who lost money were about seven or eight London families who belong to St. Joseph's Chaldean Catholic Church and trusted Father Amer Saka to deposit the money that would be used once the refugees arrived to Canada, said Bishop Emanuel Shelato, head of the Chaldean Catholic Eparchy of Canada. Cont.
