Woman Dies After Being Hit By Lightning At Music Festival

Story out of Larose, Louisiana:

One woman died and two others remain hospitalized after a lightning strike Friday night at an outdoor music festival in Larose.

The incident was reported just after 10 p.m. Friday at the T-Bois Blues Festival, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Deputies received a call that three people were injured after a lightning strike at the festival grounds. The Sheriff's Office, volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians found a woman, identified as Jackie Stavis, 28, unresponsive.

The Sheriff's Office said Stavis and two other women had gone into a small personal tent on the festival ground during a period of severe weather. After the lightning strike, Stavis was unresponsive and the two other women had suffered injuries commonly associated with electric shock.

Stavis, from New Orleans, was taken to a hospital with the two women, ages 24 and 30, for treatment. Stavis was pronounced dead Saturday, the Sheriff's Office said. Cont.
