Story out of Teruel, Spain:
A bullfighter was gored to death Saturday in front of horrified spectators — the first Spanish matador to die in the ring this century.
Victor Barrio, 29, was killed when the bull’s horn pierced his chest as he fought the 1,200-pound beast, Lorenzo, in the town of Teruel in the eastern region of Aragon.
His death during the Feria del Angel, shown live on TV, was confirmed on the Web site of Madrid’s Las Ventas bullring, where Barrio began as an apprentice matador in 2010.
The last bullfighters to have been killed in Spain were Francisco Rivera Paquirri in Córdoba in 1984 and José Cubero Yiyo in Madrid in 1985. Cont.
