Former K-9 Officer Charged After 3rd Dog Found Murdered

Story out of Cherokee County, Georgia:

More trouble for a former Cherokee County Schools K-9 officer already charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and making false statements to a law enforcement officer.

Investigators have found the remains of a third dog at the former Paulding County home of Daniel Peabody, who was arrested after his police K-9 officer, Inca, was found dead of heat stroke after being left inside his patrol car.

Back in June, police said Peabody arrived to his home in Cherokee County and turned his patrol car off, leaving the 4-year-old dog in the back of the car. Peabody then went inside his home to deal with another dog.

Peabody told police that he remembered that he left the dog in his patrol car a few hours later and when he went outside to check, he found that Inca was dead.

Peabody also allegedly admitted to shooting another former K-9 partner, a yellow lab named Dale. When Dale died, Peabody reported he choked on a toy. After his arrest he changed his story and said he shot the police dog.

When Cherokee County investigators began looking for Dale's remains, it lead them to Peabody's former home in Dallas where his ex-wife still lives.

Cherokee County and Paulding County authorities worked together digging at the property and found the remains of a dog. The dog was not Dale. Police report this third dog is a Belgian Malinois and Inca's grandmother. It was not a police dog but believed to be Peabody's former pet. It was shot in the head. Cont.
