"Beyond Hurt" - Harvard Men's Soccer Season Canceled After The "Men" Rated Fellow Female Athletes
Story out of Cambridge, Massachusetts:
Harvard announced on Thursday that it was canceling the rest of the season for its men’s soccer team after university officials uncovered what they described as a widespread practice of the team’s players rating the school’s female players in sexually explicit terms.
“We strongly believe that this immediate and significant action is absolutely necessary if we are to create an environment of mutual support, respect and trust among our students and our teams,” Robert L. Scalise, Harvard’s athletic director, wrote in an email to the university’s student-athletes around 6 p.m.
Lawyers for the university began investigating the men’s team after the college newspaper, The Harvard Crimson, reported last week that a player created a nine-page document in 2012 with numeric ratings, photos and lengthy evaluations of the freshman recruits of the Harvard women’s team based on their physical appearance. Men on the team referred to the document as a “scouting report.”
Drew Faust, Harvard’s president, indicated in a statement on Thursday that she had learned the practice was not isolated to 2012 and had continued into this year.
The women wrote that they were “beyond hurt” and had considered some of the male players to be “close friends.” But they also saw the discovery of the report as an opportunity to combat such behavior.
“To the men of Harvard soccer and to the men of the world, we invite you to join us, because ultimately we are all members of the same team,” they wrote. “We are human beings and we should be treated with dignity.” Cont.

Drunk Driver Plows Into Mother, Twin Daughters During Halloween Outing
Story out of Salem, Massachusetts:
A mother and her twin daughters were struck Sunday night by an alleged drunken driver in Salem, the famed Massachusetts city where crowds flock each year for Halloween festivities.
The mother involved in the crash told authorities that she and her 10-year-old girls were walking back to collect a forgotten stuffed animal when the collision occurred, according to a Salem Police Department report. The trio looked both ways and began to walk in the crosswalk when they were struck by a car.
Witnesses said that the impact of the crash sent one of the girls over the hood of the car, which drove away in the aftermath, according to the report.
The crash happened at around 8 p.m. on Sunday, according to the police report. It occurred in Salem, the site of the Salem Witch Trials in the 17th century, and now, a destination that draws thousands to the community for Halloween-related festivities.
The mother and twin girls were being treated for serious injuries. Cont.

Wife Of Cop Fakes Robbery, Spray Paints BLM (Black Lives Matter) On Side Of Own House
Story out of Millbury, Massachusetts:
The wife of a Millbury police officer is accused of faking a robbery and vandalizing the couple’s own home.
Police say on October 17 Maria Daly reported a burglary at the family home, saying jewelry and money had been stolen. She also reportedly said her house was tagged with graffiti that appeared to reference the Black Lives Matter movement.
According to Millbury Police Chief Donald Desorcy, investigators have determined the entire account was false.
It’s a story generating a lot of reaction in town.
“She must have tagged the place herself,” one neighbor said. “I don’t know why you’d do that, if you’re gonna stage a robbery, I mean really come on, you’re a cop’s wife. You should know better.” Cont. (Video/Autoplay)

Surgeon Accidentally Removes Healthy Kidney From Wrong Patient
Story out of Worcester, Massachusetts:
A surgeon at a Massachusetts hospital mistakenly removed a healthy kidney from someone who had the same name as the patient with the tumor.
State and federal health investigators found that the doctor at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester failed to confirm the patient's identity before the medical mix-up in July.
The doctor did examine a CT scan before surgery, which showed the tumor on the kidney, according to the Boston Globe. However, the scan was from the wrong patient.
The mistake was not discovered until after tests were done on the kidney after it was removed, according to the newspaper.
The hospital failed to follow proper patient identification protocols by checking birth dates, authorities say. Even though the patients had the same name, they were several years apart in age.
St. Vincent has been told that Medicare and Medicaid agreements with the government will be terminated unless it takes corrective action. Cont. (Video/Autoplay)

After Couple's Rainbow Flag Vandalized And House Egged, Neighbours Put Up 40 Flags In Support
Story out of Natick, Massachsuetts:
Earlier this week, Lauri and Cari Ryding came home from holiday to find that their pride flag had been stolen and their house at been egged.
Cari, 49, has lived in the neighbourhood in Natick, Massachusetts, for 23 years. She raised her family there, before separating from her husband 10 years ago.
And, four years ago, when wife Lauri, 52, moved in, she immediately felt welcomed.
So they were shocked at the vandalism – it was the first time they’d experienced prejudice where they lived. But then the response from their neighbours totally restored their faith.
After reporting the vandalism to the police, Cari reached out to her neighbours to see if anyone had seen anything and, she said, ‘the results have been miraculous’.
Dozens of rainbow flags were requested from local organisation the Rainbow Peace Flag Project, which gives them away for free, and, one by one, they went up – on porches, in front gardens, on fences.
‘I have known for 23 years of living here how amazing these people are – but today if you drive around our Natick neighborhood – you will see 40 flags hanging in solidarity for the message of equality, diversity and human connection,’ Cari wrote on her Facebook page. Cont.

Boston Police Commissioner Will Have To Force His Officers To Wear Body Cameras
Boston Police Commissioner William Evans says he plans to randomly assign body cameras to 100 officers by September since none of them volunteered for the pilot program.
The Boston Globe reports Evans made the comments Tuesday during his monthly "Ask the Commissioner" interview on WGBH-FM's Boston Public Radio.
The move comes after Evans warned that he might have to force officers to wear them because no officers volunteered. The rollout date for the pilot program is Sept. 1.
Officials said last month that the Boston Police Patrolmen's Association had agreed to the six-month pilot program.
Activists in Boston have called for police body cameras for two years, since the shooting of Michael Brown by police in Ferguson, Missouri. Cont.

Drug Trafficker Uses Disguise To Throw Off Police, Fails
If your going to go to all the trouble of an elaborate disguise why stay at your own home, with the guns and money?! Story out of Boston, Massachusetts:
When Massachusetts law enforcement surrounded the house of a 31-year-old suspected drug dealer Thursday, the person in the home didn't initially match the description.
That's because police encountered what appeared to be an elderly man.
Authorities had been looking for a much younger Shaun Miller, who police say was suspected of drug trafficking.
"Upon further investigation, officers determined that the 'elderly man' was in fact Miller," Yarmouth police said in a press release. "At that point, officers pulled off Miller's realistic disguise and placed him under arrest."
Police said they seized two loaded weapons and almost $30,000 in cash.
Miller was one of over a dozen people named in a federal drug trafficking indictment in April, and was considered a fugitive. He was detained on a charge of possession of heroin with intent to distribute. Cont.

24 People Hospitalized After Turbulence On JetBlue Flight
Story out of The Sky:
At least 22 customers and two crew members were taken to a hospital for evaluation after a JetBlue flight experienced rough turbulence Thursday evening, a spokeswoman for the airline said.
JetBlue Flight 429 was headed from Boston to Sacramento, but had to be diverted to Rapid City, South Dakota, at about 6:30 p.m. (8:30 p.m. ET), spokeswoman Katherine McMillan said.
Passenger Derek Lindahl said a woman sitting in front of him rose 2 feet into the air in the cabin at one point because she wasn't wearing a seat belt.
"I literally grabbed her out of the air to hold her to the seat," said Lindahl, a software engineer from Sacramento.
Lindahl praised the flight crew and emergency responders at the Rapid City airport.
"Even though all flight crew were injured in some way, as far as I know, they all maintained their calm and never cracked," he said. Cont. (Video/Autoplay)

Woman Bites Female Cop's Ear Off
She's lucky Salem doesn't accuse Witches anymore. Story out of Salem, Massachusetts:
Salem Police said a rookie officer had part of her ear bitten off in an alleged assault over the weekend.
The Essex County District Attorney’s office said Patrolwoman Jessica Rondinelli, 27, lost a large section of her right ear when a suspect she was arresting bit it off early Sunday morning.
Emma Wiley, 19, of Marblehead pleaded not guilty Monday in Salem District Court to mayhem, assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer, threatening to commit a crime, disorderly conduct, and having a false identification.
Wiley’s bail was withheld after a judge found her to be a danger.
According to Salem Police, Rondinelli and her partner arrested Wiley after a fight outside a restaurant. When Rondinelli was placing Wiley in a cruiser, they said, Wiley lunged at Rondinelli and bit her ear.
Police found the bitten-off part of Rondinelli’s ear on the floor of her cruiser. Essex Assistant DA Megan MacKenzie said doctors at Salem Hospital were unable to re-attach it. Cont.

Pokemon GO Players Destroying Historic Fort In Massachusetts
I'm sure the fort will be fine, it sounds Wigglytuff. Story out of Fairhaven, Massachusetts:
A fort destroyed in the Revolutionary War is again fending off attacks — this time from “Pokemon Go” players.
Caretakers of Fort Phoenix in Massachusetts say players of the popular smartphone game are damaging the historic site.
Gary Lavalette, volunteer caretaker at the fort in Fairhaven, near the Rhode Island state line, says people have been leaving trash, vandalizing historic structures and publicly urinating. He told WLNE-TV that a stone wall was taken apart with a crowbar and parts of the property look like a “minefield” because people are digging up the ground.
Lavalette said that some visitors were searching for “buried treasure” at the site because they didn’t understand its history.
The fort was destroyed by the British in 1778 but later rebuilt. Cont.

The Satanic Temple To Introduce 'After School Satan' To Students In Salem, Mass.
Giving students a choice between Jesus or Satan? It's like the Pepsi Challenge, except some people get to keep their dignity. Story out of Salem, Massachusetts:
It's a hot summer night, and leaders of the Satanic Temple have gathered in the crimson-walled living room of a Victorian manse in this city renowned for its witch trials in the 17th century. They're watching a sepia-toned video, in which children dance around a maypole, a spider crawls across a clown's face and eerie, ambient chanting gives way to a backward, demonic voice-over. The group chuckles with approval.
They're here plotting to bring their wisdom to the nation's public elementary school children. They point out that Christian evangelical groups already have infiltrated the lives of America's children through after-school religious programming in public schools, and they appear determined to give young students a choice: Jesus or Satan.
"It's critical that children understand that there are multiple perspectives on all issues, and that they have a choice in how they think," said Doug Mesner, the Satanic Temple's co-founder.
On Monday, the group plans to introduce its After School Satan Club to public elementary schools, including one in Prince George's County, petitioning school officials to allow them to open immediately as the academic year starts. Chapter heads from Utah, New York, Boston and Arizona were in Salem on July 10 talking strategy, with others from Minneapolis, Detroit, San Jose, New Orleans, Pittsburgh and Florida participating online. The promotional video, which feels like a mash-up of a horror movie trailer and a "Saturday Night Live" sketch, will serve to promote the new club along with its website — Afterschoolsatan.com. Cont.

Homeowner Charged With Murder After Shooting Teen Who Knocked On Wrong Door
Story out of Chicopee, Massachusetts:
A 15-year-old boy shot in the abdomen Saturday has died and a 42-year-old homeowner has been arrested in his death.
Jeffery Lovell, 42, 120 Boucher Circle, has been charged with murder. He is being held in the Chicopee Police Department jail without right to bail, Michael Wilk, public information officer for the Chicopee Police Department, said.
Lovell is being accused of shooting the teenager through the door of his house.
Police initially received a call of a breaking and entering into the home in the Fairview section of the city. When they arrived, they found the teenager on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen, Wilk said.
"It was determined that three parties went to the residence believing it to be (the home of) a friend. One party, the victim, was banging on the outside door, when the homeowner shot through the door, striking the male," Wilk said.
Investigators found the victim and a friend were drinking alcohol at a nearby home. The two friends were confused while walking in the neighborhood and believed they had arrived at the home of another friend, said James Leydon, spokesman for Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni, said.
Lovell, the homeowner, tried to communicate with the victim, who was still knocking on the locked door, Leydon said.
"When a pane of glass broke, the suspect fired a single shot, striking the victim," Leydon said.
When Chicopee Police arrived they immediately started providing emergency medical care and the 15-year-old was rushed to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, where he was treated but died later. Cont.

Firefighter Shot Dead While Passing Around, Pointing Gun With Friends During Drunken Night
Story out of Stoneham, Massachusetts:
A Stoneham firefighter was shot and killed in a horrific incident late Tuesday night.
The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office said the firefighter, David Atherton, 24, was drinking with 23-year-old Patrick Riccardi-O’Connor in a home on Congress Street and that the two were “passing a gun back and forth pointing it at each other” around 11:10 p.m.
“It appears the fatal shooting may have been an unintended consequence of this behavior,” Meghan Kelly, a spokesperson for the D.A., said in a statement Wednesday.
Atherton, who lived in Stoneham, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Riccardi-O’Connor, also of Stoneham, was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and discharging a firearm.
Prosecutors said Riccardi-O’Connor was funneling beer before shooting his friend, and had also “ingested” a bullet. The two had been recording videos of them fooling around with the gun throughout the night, prosecutors said.
According to court documents, Riccardi-O’Connor initially lied to police, saying Atherton was pointing the gun at his chest and shot himself.
But while at the police department, officers say Riccardi-O’Connor admitted the gun had gone off when the two were passing it back and forth. Cont. (Video/Autoplay)

People Do Nothing As Rape Victim Screams For Help
Story out of Lawrence, Massachusetts:
A Lawrence woman who says her boyfriend tied her up, raped her and threatened to shoot her initially couldn't get help when she escaped from the Newberry Street apartment she'd been held in.
The Eagle-Tribune reports the woman ran naked into the street, with her hands still bound behind her and screaming that someone was trying to kill her as people seeing her looked and did nothing.
Lawrence Police Officer Ariel Montas, who was the first officer on the scene, told Lawrence District Court Monday that the victim said she ran into a store and was told to leave, the Eagle-Tribune reported.
Eventually, the victim ran past a woman who called 911.
Police found the woman sitting on a stoop crying and wearing a sweater donated by a passerby, WCVB reported. Her face was dirty, her feet were bare, and there were ligature marks on her ankles and wrists where she had been bound, the police report stated.
According to several reports, the victim told police her boyfriend, Keyvin "Ghetto" Gil, was upset and accused her of taking his marijuana. The woman said Gil pointed a gun at her and used it to violate her. She said two days later he raped her and told her he would wait for her daughters to come home so she could say goodbye to them before he would shoot her. It was then, the woman told police, Gil tied her with clothesline. He then burned her body with a lit cigarette, she told police. The woman was able to free her legs and escape with her wrists still bound after Gil fell asleep. Cont.

Police Find Drug Lab In Spacious Mansion
Story out of Westford, Massachusetts:
A father, his wife and the couple’s two children were among six people arrested Wednesday after a months-long investigation led police to an active drug lab at a spacious Westford home.
Westford Police learned of the lab in a large multi-bedroom home on Mountain View Lane and had been investigating with the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Officers executed a search warrant Wednesday morning and arrested 63-year-old Bradley Heath along with his son, 22-year-old Bradley Heath and daughter Linley Heath, 28.
