Father Drowns 4-Year-Old In Baptismal Pool
Story out of Healdsburg, California:
A father is suspected of drowning his 4-year-old daughter in a baptismal pool at a Catholic church, Healdsburg Police Chief Kevin Burke said Monday afternoon.
Gerardo Mendoza Ordaz, 42, was found by Healdsburg police naked and screaming for help in a back parking lot of the police station on Center Street around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Burke said.
His daughter, who was clothed, and his partially-clothed 9-year-old son were with him, Burke said. An autopsy was conducted Monday, but Burke said he did not know the results.
The water in the baptismal pool is about a foot deep, Burke said.

Jason Saidian, of Los Angeles, filed a suit in a U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on Wednesday, accusing the popular donut chain of 'false and misleading business practices'.

Cop Executed While Investigating Suspicious Van
Story out of Stanislaus County, California:
A California sheriff’s deputy was killed in what authorities have called an “execution,” allegedly by a man who was taken into custody after stealing a woman’s purse at gunpoint.
Stanislaus County Deputy Dennis Wallace, 53, was shot twice in the head after radioing in that he was going to check on a suspicious van at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday at the Fox Grove Fishing Access in Hughson, officials said.
After being informed that the van had allegedly been stolen by a man identified as David Machado, Wallace requested assistance, but in the five minutes that it took another deputy to arrive on the scene, he had been shot, police said.
Wallace was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he could not be saved.
Law enforcement launched a massive manhunt for Machado, who had a felony warrant out for the killing, authorities said.
About 20 minutes after the shooting, a carjacking was reported in Keyes, where the victim identified the suspect as Machado, who allegedly abandoned the stolen van nearby, police said.
Machado, 36, traveled about 150 miles to Lindsay, where he allegedly tried to steal a woman’s purse at gunpoint near a convenience store, but the woman fought back, officials said.
Lindsay Police arrested Machado, who tried to flee down a residential alleyway but surrendered without incident, authorities said. He was then identified as the man wanted for allegedly killing Wallace.
Wallace is the fifth law enforcement officer in California to die in the line of duty in the last five weeks. Cont.

San Diego Church Tells Parishioners They'll Go To Hell If They Vote Democrat (Yes, That's Illegal)
Story out of San Diego, California:
Between requests for prayers for the sick and a notice for an upcoming chastity luncheon, a newsletter from a Catholic church in Old Town that doubles as an election-day polling site included a flier that told parishioners they’ll go to hell if they vote for Democrats.
Two Sundays later, the message had changed: Satan was working through former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The Oct. 16 bulletin from the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church was stuffed with a flyer written in both English and Spanish that cited five legislative policies — support for abortion, same-sex marriage, euthanasia, human cloning, and embryonic stem cell research — that will doom a politician and their supporters to eternal damnation.
Lawyers who study churches and other nonprofit organizations said the statements violate regulations that prevent tax-exempt groups from speaking in support or against political candidates.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego on Wednesday said the messages in the flier and bulletin do not reflect Catholic teaching or diocese policies, are inappropriate, and that voters should use their conscience to determine which candidates to support. Cont.

Trump Hosts "Free" Charity Event For Boys And Girls Clubs Of Palm Beach County, Demands $20,000
Story out of Palm Beach, California:
A charity golf tournament scheduled for the day before Election Day at Donald Trump’s West Palm Beach course has turned sour, with the charity, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County, saying the Trump people are charging unexpected fees that will cut into proceeds.
Trump International Golf Club, near Palm Beach International Airport, is on county land. As a condition of the original lease agreement since the facility opened in 1996, the golf club must make its links available at times for charity tournaments.
“This ‘free’ event is costing us $20,000 between golf and catering fees,” Mark Casale, vice president of philanthropy for the Boys and Girls Clubs, complained Tuesday in an email to County Commissioner Melissa McKinlay and Assistant County Administrator Todd Bonlarron. “What we had hoped for as far as a ‘net’ income for this event has been cut in half (if we are lucky).” Cont.

Thee Men In Pickup Truck Target Sikh Man, Punching Him, Cutting His Hair Off In Hate Crime
Freudian slip, I wrote pickup Trump originally in the headline.
Story out of Richmond, California:
Maan Singh Khalsa was stopped at a red light in Richmond, Calif., when, authorities say, a group of white men in a pickup truck began to attack him, completely unprovoked.
One of the men threw a beer can at Khalsa’s car while cursing and yelling at him. At the next red light, Khalsa’s head was pulled out of the window of his car, his turban was forcibly removed and his long hair was cut off, authorities say.
The Sikh Coalition, a national civil rights organization, is urging California law enforcement officials to file hate crime charges in connection with the September attack that left Khalsa with several injuries. The group argues that Khalsa, an information technology specialist and part-time caregiver, was targeted because of his ethnicity and religion.
About 700,000 Sikhs live in the United States. Richmond, where Khalsa, a U.S. citizen, lives, is home to a large Sikh population.
Sikh Americans have been victims of hundreds of hate crimes, and racial and religious profiling over the past 15 years since the 9/11 attacks. Cont.

"Okay, Go For It" - Cops Try To Run Over Black Suspect Before Shooting Him 14 Times
Story out of Sacramento, California:
“F— this guy,” the officer says before aiming his police cruiser at the mentally ill homeless man that he and his partner had been sent out to confront. “I”m going to hit him.”
“Okay, go for it. Go for it,” his partner responds, his voice recorded on the Sacramento police cruiser’s dash cam.
Twice, the man dodges their accelerating cruiser. In the second attempt, he leaps into a median, barely avoiding the vehicle.
But Joseph Mann, 51, could not escape the volley of bullets that followed moments later.
Mann died in the street shortly after that July 11 shooting. Mann’s family has accused officers Randy Lozoya and John Tennis of escalating the situation and showing no regard for his life, even before they jumped out of the car, fired 18 bullets and shot Mann 14 times.
The family wants the officers charged with murder. They say the video, the audio of which was enhanced by the Sacramento Bee and published Friday, is damning.
The shooting happened as officers across the nation have been embroiled in a debate about whether they are too quick to use lethal force, especially against minorities. Police have killed 719 people so far this year, according to a Washington Post examination of fatal force. Like Mann, approximately 1 in 4 of those killed were reported to have some form of mental illness. Cont.

The San Diego Union-Tribune Endorses Hillary Clinton, It's First Democrat In 148-Years
Sixteen months into his campaign, Donald Trump remains Donald Trump. Despite constant counsel from GOP advisors and insiders to adopt a decorous public persona, Trump continues to lash out at critics, to insist complex problems can be solved with little effort and to depict an America that’s been “ripped off by every single country in the world,” as he said in this week’s debate.
For millions of Americans upset with the status quo, it’s an entertaining show, and a convincing one.
But if Trump is elected president, he will no longer just be putting on a show. Upon inauguration on Jan. 20, he would be in charge of the executive branch of a global superpower and possess enormous authority, operating with no coherent worldview besides “I alone can fix it.” Military leaders have said Trump will face pushback if he orders them to do illegal things, such as torturing the families of terrorists, but in many crucial parts of the government, a President Trump will be able to people his administration with individuals whose jobs depend on keeping him happy. Imagine that. Imagine President Trump.
Based on what Trump has said, we could see an administration that’s friendlier to ruthless Russia — which is waging a cyberwar against America — than to such democracies and historic partners as Great Britain, Germany, Canada, Japan and Australia.
We could see an administration that reneges on its treaty commitments to dozens of nations, throwing the world into turmoil and increasing tensions in regions that historically have relied on the United States to be a stabilizing force.
Now consider President Hillary Clinton. We understand the lack of enthusiasm for her candidacy, the anger over her private email server, family foundation and income from Wall Street speeches, and the questions about how America fared in foreign affairs when she was secretary of state. But despite Trump’s insistence otherwise, she has the better temperament to be president — and the experience, background and relationships with world leaders that we need in a president.
This paper has not endorsed a Democrat for president in its 148-year history. But we endorse Clinton. She’s the safe choice for the U.S. and for the world, for Democrats and Republicans alike. Cont. (Video/Autoplay)

Child Diagnosed With Leprosy In California
Story out of Jurupa Valley, California:
A case of leprosy, extremely rare in the United States, has been diagnosed in a Southern California elementary school student, sending health officials scrambling to reassure parents and the public that the disease is hard to transmit and easy to treat.
Two children from Indian Hills Elementary School in Jurupa Valley had initially been diagnosed by a local doctor with the condition known medically as Hansen's disease, Riverside County health officials said Thursday. But this week they received results from the National Hansen's Disease Laboratory Research Program in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and they showed that only one of the children had tested positive.
Emails were sent to parents at the elementary school, where classrooms had been sanitized since the initial diagnosis, emphasizing how hard it is to contract leprosy and that there is no danger to the child's classmates. Cont.
