Kansas Lawmaker Imposes Dress Code For Female Witnesses

Story out of Topeka, Kansas:

Senate committee chairman, Mitch Holmes, set rules prohibiting women from wearing revealing clothing in front of his committee while making no restrictions for men. Holmes says he set these rules because women in provocative attire can be distracting for his committee.

With the legislative session is in full swing, women testifying on an elections or ethics bill, won't have their voices heard if their outfits are deemed inappropriate by a rule in Holmes' 11-point code of conduct.

"It says professional attire is expected of conferees and it says for ladies, low cut neck lines and mini skirts are inappropriate," Holmes said.

Holmes says he set those rules for his committee room after a few incidents that he felt were unprofessional.

"We did have a professional lobbyist show up with a neck line that came down almost to her navel, that was very unusual," said Holmes. Cont.
