A Baltimore police sergeant was found guilty Thursday of second-degree assault and misconduct in office after he was filmed in October spitting on a man in handcuffs, prosecutors said.
Sgt. Robert Messner, a 34-year veteran, was sentenced to two years probation, a $500 fine, anger management, community service and reassignment, prosecutors said.
Messner was suspended after the Oct. 12 incident, which happened on Old York Road and was captured on video by a bystander. The footage, circulated widely on social media, showed Messner appearing to spit on Alfred Evans, 31, of Parkville, while Evans was handcuffed on the ground. Cont.
