Story out of Toronto, Ontario:
An employee at Toronto Pearson International Airport died Friday night after the luggage cart he was driving rolled over and ejected the man onto the tarmac, Peel police say.
The victim was Ian Henry Pervez, 24, according to his family. Tributes began pouring in for him online, one calling him "a gem and a great son" in his church community.
A police spokesman said Pervez was driving the luggage cart when it rolled over and he was thrown to the tarmac around 11 p.m.. An airport spokeswoman confirmed that the victim was an Air Canada employee, but she could not say what safety regulations are typically in place for luggage handlers.
Union representative Bill Trbovich said that Pervez has been working for Air Canada for about nine months. He couldn't say whether the union had any safety concerns, saying that they would need to learn what led to the workplace fatality first.
The federal Transportation Safety Board may also investigate what happened, depending on whether an aircraft was in any way involved, an official told CBC. Cont.
