California School Board Member Resigns Over Icky Transgender Students

Story out of Kern County, California:

Chad Vegas, the Kern High School District’s longest continuously serving board member and a Christian pastor known for his conservative values, announced Friday he will not seek reelection in November, citing board policies that violate his religious conscience.

Vegas made the decision after voting against policies Thursday that mandate non-discrimination against transgender individuals at KHSD, including requiring staff and teachers to refer to transgender students by the pronoun with which they identify.

Vegas wrote a letter to Sovereign Grace Church, where he works as a pastor, detailing his decision, then published it on Facebook.

“I am a Christian pastor above all else. I could not vote for these policies. I can not remain on a board to enforce these policies. I spoke out against the board voting for this. I called on them to realize that they will answer to God on this vote, and they should fear Him more than the state. I did not prevail,” Vegas wrote. “I will not be seeking reelection to the Kern High School District Board. I will give all my time and effort to being a pastor in our church.” Cont.
