Man Killed By Police After Trying To Plow Through Chicken Wing Festival

Story out of Reno, Nevada:

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation of an officer-involved shooting Sunday in downtown Reno that left one man dead.

Deputies say a Reno Police Department Motor Unit attempted to make a traffic stop on a silver minivan in the area on Kuenzli Street and East 2nd Street around 1:30 p.m. The driver of the minivan failed to yield, and fled toward downtown Reno.

The driver was driving erratically down East Plaza Street toward Virginia Street, which was barricaded to traffic for the Biggest Little City Wing Fest.

A Reno police officer, who was on foot in the area, fired on the minivan. The driver turned north on Virginia Street before crashing into a vendor and coming to a stop.

The driver was taken to a local hospital, where he later died. The cause of death is still under investigation. No other civilians or officers were injured in the incident.

"Standing here, when you see the crowds that are there at Wing Fest, it's very comforting for me to say that no civilians were hurt in this incident today," said Bob Harmon, a Public Information Officer with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office. "I'm very pleased to be able to report that." Cont. (Video)
