Story out of Xi'an, China:
A woman's remains have been removed from the elevator of an apartment complex she lived in after maintenance workers improperly deactivated the elevator while visiting to repair a fault, leaving her trapped inside for over a month.
The latest reports indicate that before turning off the elevator they shouted down to see if anyone was inside, but did not properly check the carriage. Subsequent repair work was then delayed by the Chinese New Year holiday. Police are now investigating the death as an involuntary manslaughter case.
According to NetEase, the incident took place in Xian, Shaanxi province. Reports indicate that police found a female corpse in the elevator on March 1 and subsequently launched an investigation into the woman's death. Cont.
