Canadian Restaurant Backtracks After Outrage Over Dropping Canadian Beef From Menu

It was just a mis-steak.

Earls restaurant chain and the Alberta beef industry have reached a truce, but Earls president Mo Jessa said his company remains committed to offering nothing but hormone and antibiotic-free beef to its customers.

Jessa — who came to Calgary from Vancouver on Wednesday to offer a mea culpa to Alberta and its ranchers — admitted Earls made a mistake last week when it announced it would begin serving only Certified Humane beef, sourced from Kansas. He said the company underestimated how important local sourcing is to consumers.

“We heard loud and clear from the Alberta consumers, and there’s no question it’s really important to Canadians and our consumers that we get Canadian beef back on Earls’ menu,” Jessa said. Cont. (Video)
