A prominent young chess grandmaster has died after falling from a balcony while undertaking the extreme sport of parkour, said police.

Yuri Eliseev, 20, died late on Saturday after falling from the 12th storey of his apartment building in Moscow, according to Russian news reports.

The reports quoted police saying Eliseev died while trying to reach the balcony of a neighbouring apartment.

Eliseev was the world under-16 chess champion in 2012 and was given grandmaster status at just 17. Cont.

Woman Fakes Violent Robbery To Avoid Telling Husband She Blew Their Life Savings

Story out of Nizhny Tagil, Russia:

A woman has avoided prison for faking a burglary because she was too scared to tell her husband she had spent their life savings.

The 65-year-old, whose name has not been released, was given a six month suspended prison sentence for the stunt in the city of Nizhny Tagil in central Russia's Sverdlovsk Oblast region.

Neighbours called police after hearing cries for help coming from the woman's flat and officers arrived to find her wrapped in duct tape and the flat ransacked.

She claimed she had answered the door to what she thought was a postman to find two men, wearing stocking masks and surgical gloves, demanding cash.

The woman said the men tied her up with duct tape, trashed her home and escaped with the family's life savings of £2,230.

But police grew suspicious and the woman later admitted that she had faked the whole thing because she dared not tell her husband that she had spent the money.

The woman could have been jailed for up to five years for making false allegations and for wasting police time but the judge took pity on her. Cont.

Two Russian Schoolchildren Use Periscope To Live Stream Shootout With Police Before Committing Suicide

Two schoolchildren live-streamed themselves in a shootout with police before turning their guns on themselves.

The 15-year-olds were found dead inside a house in the northwestern Russian Pskov region after the standoff.

The boy, named Denis Muravyov, had shot the mother of the girl, who was named Katya, in the leg during a row about attending a sleepover.

The gunfight was broadcast on live video app Periscope, and pictures of them firing at police were also posted to Instagram.

The National Guard special forces said in a statement to TASS news agency that they found 'the bodies of a girl and a young man with clear signs of suicide', stressing they did not open fire. Cont.

Russian Fighter Jet Overshoots Carrier, Lands In Ocean

The pilot ejected safely from the plane, the ministry said.

The Admiral Kuznetsov is part of a group of Russian warships recently deployed near the Syrian coast.

Nato had expressed concern planes from the carrier would be used to attack civilians in the Syrian city of Aleppo.

The defence ministry said the crash was as a result of "technical malfunction" during a training flight.

The jet came down a few kilometres from the carrier and the pilot was picked up by a rescue team.

The aircraft appeared to have mechanical difficulties shortly after take-off, the Washington Post reported, pointing out that MiG-29Ks were added to the Kuznetsov's carrier wing during the summer.

The aircraft are specifically designed to handle the difficulties of operating from an aircraft carrier at sea, the paper reported, and are believed to be updated versions of MiG-29s, which have been in service since the 1980s. Cont.

Russia Admits To Talking With Trump Campaign

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said the Russian embassy in the U.S. held talks with the Trump camp that “were on a sufficient, responsible level.” Hope Hicks, a spokeswoman for Trump, said in an e-mail that she was “not aware” of any meetings by campaign representatives with Russian diplomats.

Ryabkov said the talks were “part of routine everyday work.” There was also “sporadic” contact with the Clinton team, though it was “not always productive,” he said. Calls to members of Clinton’s former campaign team for comment weren’t immediately returned.

Kulgavchuk, who is also president of Russia's Association of Sexologists, claims the rope climbing and riding bikes can result in young females having  'myotonic orgasms' which lead to 'pyscho-sexual development'.

And now he had pleaded with the Russian Ministry of Education to ban girls from carrying out the activities in schools.

Online, one climber called Oleg said: 'This is idiocy even if to leave aside the fact that it is legs, arms and hands that are used in rope climbing, not other parts of the body.

'He should try climbing himself before suggesting ideas like this.'

The image was published by the Makeyev Rocket Design Bureau on its website.

Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Borsiov said the Sarmat warhead was capable of destroying targets flying across both North and South Poles, Russian state news agency TASS reported Tuesday.

33-year-old Anna Ozhigova plunged into a depression after plastic surgery left her with oversized nostrils – killing herself and her eight-year-old son, Gleb.

According to friends, the botched surgery led to the breakup of her marriage from husband Oleg Ponomarev, leaving her feeling hopeless.

Russian newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda reported Gleb’s body was found close to his mother’s, after she jumped from her parents’ apartment in Omsk, Siberia, last Thursday.

A friend, who remains anonymous, revealed the woman had tried to commit suicide before, and was scared her businessman husband would secure full custody of their son – describing the surgery as the “last straw." Cont.

A diabetic woman who decided to put her insulin into her checked-in luggage died 45 minutes into a flight – with airline staff unable to help her.

The 50-year-old, who has not been named, died on the Azur Air flight to the Russian capital Moscow, having just visited the popular tourist city of Antalya, in South Turkey, with her husband.

The woman’s husband said the woman chose to keep the medication in her checked-in luggage because she had had an insulin shot just one hour prior to the flight.

The woman is believed to have suffered acute heart failure leading to her death.

Ballot Stuffing Caught On Various Security Cameras Show Election Fraud In Russia

                  

Complaints of election violations were increasing on Sunday as Russians voted for a new lower-house of parliament.

News website Kavpolit.com published videos which purportedly show people dropping multiple sheets of paper into ballot boxes in various polling stations of Russia’s southern Dagestan province.

A spokesman for Kavpolit told the Associated Press in phone interview that journalists working for the website filmed the video, which they said showed violations.

The voting for the 450 seats in the State Duma, the lower house of parliament, was not expected to substantially change the distribution of power, in which the pro-Kremlin United Russia party holds an absolute majority.

But the perceived honesty of the election could be a critical factor in whether protests arise following the voting. Cont.

Polar Bears Trap Russian Scientists At Research Station

It's been polar bears versus Russian scientists on a remote island in the Arctic.

A group of seven bears had besieged five researchers at a Russian weather station over the past few days. Luckily for the scientists, a passing ship delivered flares and dogs to help ward off the beasts.

Vadim Plotnikov, chief of the station on Troynoy Island in the Kara Sea, said that the Russian vessel also deployed a helicopter Wednesday to chase away the bears, according to the Tass news agency.

The bears had grown increasingly aggressive in recent days, killing one of the station's two dogs and smashing windows of the station's depot. The desperate explorers had run out of flares and remained trapped inside.

Plotnikov said that one female polar bear was particularly persistent, overnighting under the station's windows since the weekend.

Russian Natural Resources Minister Sergei Donskoi ordered officials to take quick steps to help the crew, and a research ship that happened to be in the area delivered the badly needed supplies. At the same time, Donskoi emphasized the need to spare the bears. Cont.

A trove of hacked emails published by WikiLeaks in 2012 excludes records of a €2 billion transaction between the Syrian regime and a government-owned Russian bank, according to leaked U.S. court documents obtained by the Daily Dot.

WikiLeaks has become an ever-prominent force in the 2016 presidential election through its publishing of tens of thousands of emails, voicemails, and documents stolen from the Democratic National Committee by hackers that U.S. authorities and cybersecurity experts believe are linked to the Russian government. The transparency organization, which boasts of a commitment to use “cryptography to protect human rights” against repressive regimes, has faced criticism from supporters of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and praise from Republican opponent Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The court records, placed under seal by a Manhattan federal court and obtained by the Daily Dot through an anonymous source, show in detail how a group of hacktivists breached the Syrian government’s networks on the eve of the country’s civil war and extracted emails about major bank transactions the Syrian regime was hurriedly making amid a host of economic sanctions. In the spring of 2012, most of the emails found their way into a WikiLeaks database.

But one set of emails in particular didn’t make it into the cache of documents published by WikiLeaks in July 2012 as “The Syria Files,” despite the fact that the hackers themselves were ecstatic at their discovery. The correspondence, which WikiLeaks has denied withholding, describes “more than” €2 billion ($2.4 billion, at current exchange rates) moving from the Central Bank of Syria to Russia’s VTB Bank. Cont.

The FBI has uncovered evidence that foreign hackers penetrated two state election databases in recent weeks, prompting the bureau to warn election officials across the country to take new steps to enhance the security of their computer systems, according to federal and state law enforcement officials.

The FBI warning, contained in a “flash” alert from the FBI’s Cyber Division, a copy of which was obtained by Yahoo News, comes amid heightened concerns among U.S. intelligence officials about the possibility of cyberintrusions, potentially by Russian state-sponsored hackers, aimed at disrupting the November elections.

The FBI did not respond to detailed questions about the alert, saying in a statement only that such bulletins are provided “to help systems administrators guard against the actions of persistent cyber criminals.” Menzel, the Illinois election official, said that in a recent briefing, FBI agents confirmed to him that the perpetrators were believed to be foreign hackers, although they were not identified by country. On a leafy side street off Independence Square in Kiev is an office used for years by Donald J. Trump’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, when he consulted for Ukraine’s ruling political party. His furniture and personal items were still there as recently as May.

And Mr. Manafort’s presence remains elsewhere here in the capital, where government investigators examining secret records have found his name, as well as companies he sought business with, as they try to untangle a corrupt network they say was used to loot Ukrainian assets and influence elections during the administration of Mr. Manafort’s main client, former President Viktor F. Yanukovych.

Handwritten ledgers show $12.7 million in undisclosed cash payments designated for Mr. Manafort from Mr. Yanukovych’s pro-Russian political party from 2007 to 2012, according to Ukraine’s newly formed National Anti-Corruption Bureau. Investigators assert that the disbursements were part of an illegal off-the-books system whose recipients also included election officials.

In addition, criminal prosecutors are investigating a group of offshore shell companies that helped members of Mr. Yanukovych’s inner circle finance their lavish lifestyles, including a palatial presidential residence with a private zoo, golf course and tennis court. Among the hundreds of murky transactions these companies engaged in was an $18 million deal to sell Ukrainian cable television assets to a partnership put together by Mr. Manafort and a Russian oligarch, Oleg Deripaska, a close ally of President Vladimir V. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi had to change her phone number after a hack of the House Democrats' campaign arm led to a barrage of "obscene" calls and messages, she said Saturday.

"I have received scores of mostly obscene and sick calls, voicemails and text messages," Pelosi wrote in a letter to party members. "Please be careful not to allow your children or family members to answer your phone."

Pelosi also urged members and staff who were receiving similar calls to change their phone numbers.

Her comments came just a day after hackers posted personal information, including cell phone numbers and email addresses, for Democratic House members and staff. The hacking group "Guccifer 2.0" claimed responsibility for the breach, which took documents from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Olympic Committee Bans All Russian Paralympics Athletes

The International Paralympic Committee is set to do what its Olympic counterpart did not and ban Russia outright from its Games later this month, the Observer has learned.

In the wake of the publication of Professor Richard McLaren’s report that revealed jaw-dropping details of systemic doping in Russia, the IPC provisionally suspended Russia from the Paralympics.

It is understood that after gathering further evidence from McLaren and giving the Russian Paralympic Committee the opportunity to make its case, a provisional decision has been made. The IPC is to announce its decision at a press conference in Rio on Sunday.

McLaren, who discovered systemic doping across most Olympic sports over a period of four years as well as 35 “disappearing positives” from Paralympic disciplines, this week accused the International Olympic Committee of misinterpreting his findings. Cont.

The city government says it’s developing a smartphone application that works like the virally popular “augmented reality” game Pokemon Go, but with a patriotic twist: it will help educate Muscovites about the history of their country and its capital. And give them some exercise.

Under President Vladimir Putin, Russia has frequently sought to reduce reliance on the West by trying to create home-grown versions of widespread technology. It has stepped up these efforts since ties with the West deteriorated severely following Moscow’s interference in Ukraine in 2014, which prompted the United States and European Union to impose sanctions.

Instead of using smartphones to detect, catch, and “collect” virtual Pokemon creatures, users of Find Out Moscow, Photo will search the streets and parks of Moscow for famous historical and cultural figures.

Unlike in Pokemon Go, likenesses of the figures will actually be projected into reality in 3D, city authorities say. The app will invite users to photograph themselves with the 3D figures, while players of Pokemon Go can battle one another using the Pokemon they have collected and “trained.”
