A man offering free hugs in New York City’s Times Square is in jail after allegedly punching an Ontario woman in the face.
A New York Police Department spokesperson told the Star a 22-year-old woman from Ottawa took a picture with the man, who was holding a sign saying “free hugs,” on Thursday.
The spokesperson said the man demanded money three times, and each time the woman refused to pay. After the third request, she was punched in the face.
The woman was taken to a local hospital to be treated for severe facial swelling.
The man was subsequently arrested by officers. Jermaine Himmelstein, 24, has been charged with robbery and fraudulent accosting. Cont.
