Man Proposes To Girlfriend After Being Stabbed

Story out of Daytona Beach, California:

Kentucky couple Steven Worthington and Allison Crowe were walking on the pier near Ocean Walk Shoppes in Daytona Beach Monday night, when a man made crude comments to Worthington's 12-year-old daughter.

Worthington exchanged words with the man, later identified as John Debow, and then tried to get him away from his daughter.

"I pushed the man away, he pulled out a switchblade and proceeded to stab me in the stomach," Worthington said.

Daytona Beach police made it to the scene in minutes and arrested Debow, who was taken to a hospital.

While Worthington sat in an ambulance for his injuries, he had a strangely sweet idea. He wanted to propose to his girlfriend right then.

"I got down on one knee and she actually was trying to help me back up. I knew I wanted to propose when I was out here. It was actually going to be out on the beach here, gonna write it in sand and everything,” Worthington said.

The couple laughs now, but they say it'll be an epic story to pass to the grandkids. Cont.

Pro-Family Senator Told To Resign Over Sex Tape

Story out of Nebraska:

Gov. Pete Ricketts has urged state Sen. Bill Kintner of Papillion to resign if allegations are proven true that Kintner exchanged sexually explicit video of himself using his state computer.

A source familiar with the situation said Kintner told investigators about the video when he asked the Nebraska State Patrol for help with computer problems in July 2015.

Investigators haven't described the video or said whether a permanent copy or other evidence was ever obtained.

But another senator said he contacted the State Patrol last fall after a woman offered to sell what she called a sexually explicit video of Kintner.

Omaha Sen. Bob Krist said he informed Ricketts' chief of staff, Matt Miltenberger, around the same time that a sexually explicit video involving Kintner had been brought to senators' attention.

Kintner, 55, has been married for about seven years to Lauren Kintner, the governor's chief policy adviser.

Considered one of the Legislature's most conservative senators, Bill Kintner once told the Journal Star that his parents "taught me the moral absolutes of Christianity, and I just applied those to everything."

The senator has drawn criticism from colleagues and observers outside the Legislature for his controversial statements and perceived lack of decorum since he took office. Speaker Galen Hadley chastised him in February for likening fellow senators to monkeys in his regular column published by the Plattsmouth Journal. Cont.

Judge Outraged Over Defendant Not Wearing Pants

Story out of Louisville, Kentucky:

A female Metro Corrections inmate was brought to Jefferson District Court on Friday morning without a jumpsuit - and appearing to not be wearing pants - prompting a judge to call the jail and ask “what the hell is going on?”

An attorney for the woman told Judge Amber Wolf that the jail “refused to give her pants and any kind of hygiene products that she needed,” according to a video of the hearing from Friday morning.

The woman, who was in jail for not completing a diversion program on a 2014 shoplifting charge, said she had been in Metro Corrections for days without pants, despite repeated requests.

As the woman and her attorney looked on, Wolf took out her cell phone during the hearing and called to talk with Metro Corrections Director Mark Bolton, telling someone she wanted to ask him “why there is a female defendant standing in front of me with no pants on.”

Wolf asked court staff to find something to cover the woman with – “anything, I don’t care what it is.” Cont.

16 People Die In World's Worst Hot Air Balloon Accident

Story out of Lockhart, Texas:

At least 16 people died in the hot air balloon crash in Central Texas, the National Transportation Safety Board said Sunday, adding that investigators are still trying to determine the exact number of passengers.

It's apparently the worst such disaster in U.S. history, and one of the worst ever in the world. In February 2013, a balloon flying over Luxor, Egypt, caught fire and plunged 1,000 feet to the ground, crashing into a sugar cane field and killing at least 19 foreign tourists.

NTSB investigators are beginning the process of determining what caused the balloon to crash, said NTSB member Robert Sumwalt during a news conference Sunday in Washington. He offered few details of what investigators had learned so far, but said they'd look into whether the operator of the balloon filed a passenger manifest before taking off, also noting that balloons do not usually file flight plans.

Saturday's crash happened at about 7:40 a.m. in a pasture. Cutting through that farmland is a row of massive high-capacity electrical transmission lines about 4 to 5 stories tall. The site of the crash appears to be right below the overhead lines, though authorities haven't provided further details about what happened. Aerial photos showed an area of charred pasture underneath power lines. Cont.

Skydiver Plummets 25,000 Feet Into Net In World's First Freefall Without A Parachute

Story out of Simi Valley, California:

A U.S. skydiver came back to earth in spectacular fashion Saturday night -- netting a world's first in the process.

Luke Aikins plummeted from 25,000 feet above the desert landscape of California's Simi Valley without a parachute, landing squarely in a 100 feet x 100 feet, two-tiered net set up to catch him. He nailed the landing at 120 mph -- terminal velocity.

Moments before he reached the safety net he did a last-second roll onto his back to land in the right position. Upon landing he remained motionless for a short while, before the net was lowered, and he stood up to embrace his wife. Cont.

Ex CFLer And Wife Murdered By 16-Year-Old Son

Story out of Houston, Texas:

A former CFL linebacker and his wife have been fatally shot in their Houston, Texas home, and the couple's 16-year-old son has been charged as a juvenile in the killings.

Police say they discovered the couple around 2 a.m. on Friday. Dawn Armstrong was pronounced dead at the scene and her husband Antonio Armstrong died later in the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head.

Antonio Armstrong played football for Texas A&M before being drafted by the NFL’s Miami Dolphins in 1995. He played only four games with the team.

After being briefly signed to the St. Louis Rams, Armstrong joined the CFL’s B.C. Lions in 1998. Armstrong was traded to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2000. An ankle fracture that year would be a leading factor in his retirement. Armstrong last played for the Blue Bombers at the 2001 Grey Cup.

After retiring from professional football, Armstrong operated a fitness company chain in Houston with his wife. The couple also has a 20-year-old son and a 12-year-old daughter, who were home at the time of the shootings. The siblings were unhurt, police said. Cont. (Video)

340-Year-Old Cheese Found In Ship Wreck

I don't know if it's still Gouda, but you'd be Emmental to eat it.

A 340-year-old tin of cheese was discovered in the Kronan, a Swedish royal ship that sank in the Baltic Sea in 1676.

The Kronan was discovered in 1980 and since then has been the site of a number of underwater excavations resulting in over 30,000 artifacts being found.

The latest excavation dug up, among other things, a pewter tin of what researchers believe is a dairy product, possibly cheese.

Lars Einarsson, director of The Kronan Project, told Global News the small amount of cheese and the specific type of jar indicates it could have been an “exclusive” cheese for someone of higher rank. Cont.

Couple Charged With Attempting To Sell Scavenged Deer Parts From Dumpsters

Dumpstir-fri. Story out of Lititz, Pennsylvania:

Wildlife officials say restaurant owners who scavenged deer parts from trash bins outside butcher shops violated laws that prohibit the sale of wild venison.

Authorities last week issued 15 citations against Shi Lu Eng, accusing her of illegally transporting deer to sell in New York.

A Wildlife Conservation officer says there's evidence that Eng and her husband, Chun Dwong, have been collecting discarded deer parts for the past couple years.

The officer seized hundreds of pounds of deer in December from their restaurant in Lititz, Pennsylvania, including brains, skinned tails and legs.

The Engs are both charged with possession of deer parts intended for sale. Cont.

"First Kill" - 14-Year-Old Arrested After Attempted Murder

Story out of New Richmond, Wisconsin:

A 14-year-old New Richmond girl who said she was a “psychopath” and wanted another girl seriously injured to be her “first kill,” was charged Thursday in St. Croix County Court with attempted first-degree intentional homicide.

St. Croix County sheriff’s deputies responded around 9:30 a.m. to a location north of New Richmond on Kali J. Bookey’s report of an attempted abduction. She said she had been riding her bicycle earlier that morning when she was physically assaulted by two men wearing ski masks and armed with a knife.

Bookey said in an attempt to ward off the attackers, she suggested they go to a New Richmond residence where they would find a girl home alone.

At that residence, police found the girl, 15, lying on the floor in a bedroom, bleeding profusely from her face and neck. She eventually told police that Bookey, her boyfriend’s sister, attacked her.

The victim said she had been in bed when Bookey tried to suffocate her, and they struggled, with the victim being repeatedly struck in the head and face.

Bookey then hit the victim over the head with two bowls, using shards from the broken bowls to cut the victim. Bookey then asked the victim if she wanted to die or bleed out, and when the victim answered to bleed out, Bookey stopped the cutting.

Bookey said she “was a psychopath and crazy and that (the victim) was her first kill and she was probably going to kill again.”

Bookey said she made up the abduction story to explain her own injuries and to get help to the victim.

Police noted that Bookey described the assault in “a calm, mostly unemotional manner.” Cont.

Butt Hurt Comedy Central Threatens Legal Action Against Stephen Colbert

The reappearance of the Colbert character apparently enflamed corporate lawyers from his old employer Comedy Central, enough for them to claim the character was their "intellectual property," and thus no longer belonged to the man who created him.

Right now it is not clear what the motivation for the legal move is because both CBS and Comedy Central are refusing to comment either on or off the record. (Viacom, Comedy Central's corporate owner, referred questions back to the cable network.) That only raises questions about why Comedy Central would take such provocative and hostile action against one of the biggest stars in its history -- never mind one who is now starring on CBS, its corporate sibling. It would seem to send a signal to the creative community: you bring your talents here at the risk of seeing them appropriated.

The decision is a bizarre replay of the similarly mind-boggling stand taken by NBC in 1993 when David Letterman left that network for CBS. At that time, those two sides, at least, were ferociously contentious, in contrast to this situation, in which Colbert seemed to leave Comedy Central with hugs and kisses all around. NBC insisted Letterman's work belonged to them, not him. The theory espoused was that they might someday sell his re-runs somewhere, but the widespread interpretation was that this was an effort to stick it to Letterman. Cont.

Belgian Scientists Create Machine That Turns Urine Into Drinking Water

Now they just need branding. How about, Aquapeena, Pissleri, or Yellow life.

The machine doesn’t require electricity and can be used off the grid. So how does it work? Basically, it collects urine in a big tank where it’s heated in a solar-powered boiler and passed through a membrane that retrieves the drinkable water.

It all started when the group of researchers at the University of Ghent wanted to find a creative way to recover resources.

The team started testing out different ways they can filter out nutrients such as potassium, nitrogen and phosphorous, which can then be used to make fertilizers. They made the machine with their own hands and ordered a few parts from around the world. It cost a few thousand euros to make and roughly two months to complete.

In constructing the machine, they then discovered they could also turn the pee into water. And that’s when they had the idea of using that water to also brew beer. (As long as you're drunk, you won't be thinking about what's in it.)

Using the slogan #peeforscience, the team recently used their prototype machine at a music festival in Ghent. They recovered 1,000 litres of water from the urine of festival-goers.

They hope to introduce the machine to developing countries and rural communities, where water and fertilizer are in short supply. Cont. (Video)

"Nobody Deserves To Be Treated Like That" - Cop Refused Service At McDonald's

Story out of Brenham, Texas:

The famous golden arches serve as big beacons that hundreds of hungry customers are drawn to everyday.

But when an off-duty Brenham police officer tried to eat at the location off Highway 290 with his two kids, an employee denied him service, simply because he's an officer.

"Nobody deserves to be treated like that," said Brenham Police Chief Craig Goodman.

Another worker ultimately did the right thing and served the officer and his family.

The officer brought the incident up to his captain. They contacted McDonald's and the restaurant didn't waste much time.

"They, much like a police organization, looked at what took place, and after gathering the information, they came to the right decision and that employee no longer works for their business," said Goodman.

Goodman says the female worker's son was already in custody and facing serious charges. He believes that may be part of the fuel that sparked her negative feelings towards police. Cont. (Video/Autoplay)

Cop Mistakes Krispy Kreme Topping For Meth, Arrests Innocent Man

If donuts had meth as toppings, cops would be high off their ass 24/7. Story out of Orlando, Florida:

Aaniel Rushing treats himself to a Krispy Kreme doughnut every other Wednesday. He used to eat them in his car.

Not anymore.

Not since a pair of Orlando police officers pulled him over, spotted four tiny flakes of glaze on his floorboard and arrested him, saying they were pieces of crystal methamphetamine.

The officers did two roadside drug tests and both came back positive for the illegal substance, according to his arrest report. He was handcuffed, arrested, taken to the county jail and strip searched, he said.

A state crime lab, however, did another test several weeks later and cleared him.

"It was incredible," he said. "It feels scary when you haven't done anything wrong and get arrested. … It's just a terrible feeling."

The officer who made the arrest, Cpl. Shelby Riggs-Hopkins, an eight-year department veteran, had staked out the 7-Eleven because of complaints about drug activity, she wrote in her report.

She pulled over Rushing because he failed to come to a full stop before pulling out of the convenience store parking lot and because he was driving 42 mph in a 30 mph zone, according to her report. When Rushing opened his wallet, she saw that he had a concealed weapons permit, she wrote. He told her that he had a gun, and she asked him to step out of his car, a small Chevy.

That's when she spotted "a rock like substance on the floor board where his feet were," she wrote.

"Rushing stated that the substance is sugar from a Krispie Kreme Donut that he ate," Riggs-Hopkins wrote.

She booked him into the county jail on a charge of possession of methamphetamine with a firearm. He was locked up for about 10 hours before his release on $2,500 bond, he said.

According to FDLE, an analyst in its Orlando crime lab did not try to identify what police found in his car. She only checked to determine whether it was an illegal drug and confirmed that it was not.

Rushing, who retired after 25 years as an Orlando parks department employee, has hired a lawyer and is asking the city to pay him damages. Cont.

William D. Gossett, 21, was stopped by Center Township police at about 7 p.m. Saturday at Cinemark Theater, 99 Wagner Road. According to a police report, officers noticed Gossett walking around the theater carrying a large bag and wearing long-sleeved army fatigues, despite the 94-degree weather.

Police said Gossett noticed officers and immediately walked into the bathroom.

Officers approached Gossett, who told them he was going to see the movie "The Purge," police said. According to the report, Gossett gave police permission to search his bag, where they found a gun and ammunition. Police said the gun was stolen from Columbiana, Ohio.

Once taken into custody, Gossett gave officers a fake name and date of birth, police said. According to the report, he told officers he changed his name, but never went through the legal process.

Police said Gossett has been convicted of two felonies in Georgia and is not licensed to carry a firearm. Cont.

"If I Was A Terrorist, I Could Have Killed Them All" - Reporter Declares After Walking Out Of Church

Or, "If I was a baker, I could have given them all a cookie." I think that's better.

Sky News’ Martin Brunt appeared to be channelling the spirit of Alan Partridge after he delivered a warning live on air that succeeded in being as bizarre as it was chilling.

Addressing the camera, a sombre Brunt announced: “The morning service began 20 minutes ago and there are no obvious signs of any security.

“In fact this sign at the church door says ‘everybody is welcome.’”

Stepping briefly into the building, Brunt returns and deadpans to the camera: “There are about a dozen worshippers in there and one priest. If I was a terrorist, I could’ve killed them all.”

Moscow Creates A Patriotic Version Of Pokemon GO

No ones wants to see Putin Squirtle. Next game ripoff will see Putie dressed as a plumber jumping on the Proletariat.

Moscow authorities want Russians to stop searching the streets for Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and other Pokemon and instead try to catch virtual versions of Russian historical figures from the tsars to space pioneer Yury Gagarin.

The city government says it’s developing a smartphone application that works like the virally popular “augmented reality” game Pokemon Go, but with a patriotic twist: it will help educate Muscovites about the history of their country and its capital. And give them some exercise.

Under President Vladimir Putin, Russia has frequently sought to reduce reliance on the West by trying to create home-grown versions of widespread technology. It has stepped up these efforts since ties with the West deteriorated severely following Moscow’s interference in Ukraine in 2014, which prompted the United States and European Union to impose sanctions.

Instead of using smartphones to detect, catch, and “collect” virtual Pokemon creatures, users of Find Out Moscow, Photo will search the streets and parks of Moscow for famous historical and cultural figures.

Unlike in Pokemon Go, likenesses of the figures will actually be projected into reality in 3D, city authorities say. The app will invite users to photograph themselves with the 3D figures, while players of Pokemon Go can battle one another using the Pokemon they have collected and “trained.”

The list of personalities includes tsars Peter the Great and Ivan the Terrible; Gagarin, the first man in space; Soviet-era rock icon Viktor Tsoi; revered writer Aleksandr Pushkin; scientist Mikhail Lomonosov; and composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Crashing the Russian party is Napoleon Bonaparte. Cont.

“Well Fed And Had Decent Lodgings Provided By The Government” - TV Blowhard Bill O'Reilly Under Fire For Comments On Slavery

Needless to say, article after article are being written proving the guy who likes to write "history" books, knows next to nothing about history.

Addressing Michelle Obama’s remarks about slaves having built the White House, Bill O’Reilly said Tuesday on his Fox News program that those slaves were “well fed and had decent lodgings provided by the government.”

His comments drew swift rebukes online. He fired back on his Wednesday program, saying that the nation’s first president provided slaves with “meat, bread and other staples” and “decent lodging.”

It all began in a 90-second segment near the end of “The O’Reilly Factor” on the Fox News Channel on Tuesday night, when Mr. O’Reilly delved into the history of the White House dating to George Washington’s selecting the site for it in 1791.

Mr. O’Reilly, a conservative pundit and the author of historical books like “Killing Kennedy,” appeared to be attempting to fact-check a statement the first lady made on Monday at the Democratic National Convention, calling her words “a positive comment” and adding that “the history behind her remark is fascinating.”

“Slaves that worked there were well fed and had decent lodgings provided by the government, which stopped hiring slave labor in 1802,” he said. “However, the feds did not forbid subcontractors from using slave labor. So, Michelle Obama is essentially correct in citing slaves as builders of the White House, but there were others working, as well.”

Twitter users seized on his comments, which were criticized as making light of the slaves’ treatment and regurgitating the antebellum view of the “happy” or “content” slave. Cont.

Russian Paid Internet Trolls Are Changing Tactics To Get Trump Elected

'Draw not your bow till your arrow is fixed.' -  Russian Proverb.

Russia's troll factories were, at one point, likely being paid by the Kremlin to spread pro-Trump propaganda on social media.

That is what freelance journalist Adrian Chen, now a staff writer at The New Yorker, discovered as he was researching Russia's "army of well-paid trolls" for an explosive New York Times Magazine exposé published in June 2015.

"A very interesting thing happened," Chen told Longform's Max Linsky in a podcast in December.

"I created this list of Russian trolls when I was researching. And I check on it once in a while, still. And a lot of them have turned into conservative accounts, like fake conservatives. I don't know what's going on, but they're all tweeting about Donald Trump and stuff," he said.

Linsky then asked Chen who he thought "was paying for that."

"I don't know," Chen replied. "I feel like it's some kind of really opaque strategy of electing Donald Trump to undermine the US or something. Like false-flag kind of thing. You know, that's how I started thinking about all this stuff after being in Russia."

In his research from St. Petersburg, Chen discovered that Russian internet trolls — paid by the Kremlin to spread false information on the internet — have been behind a number of "highly coordinated campaigns" to deceive the American public. Cont.

2 Soldiers Fondly Remembered After Being Killed While Helping Woman

Story out of Chapin, South Carolina:

Tributes continue to come in for two local soldiers killed at a Lake Murray bar who witnesses say were trying to help a woman who was being attacked.

Deputies say 40-year-old Staff Sergeant Charles Allen Judge Jr. and 29-year-old Sergeant First Class Jonathan Michael Prins were both shot and killed by 25-year-old Joseph Elijah Mills outside the Frayed Knot Bar & Grill on Dreher Island Road early Sunday morning.

Mills left the scene after the killings, but was eventually captured late Sunday afternoon, officers said. At a hearing Monday, he was denied bond.

Justin Brooks, the owner of Frayed Knot, said Mills was kicking and hitting the victim on the ground. A group of people threw him off her, and while he was on the ground, he fired shots into the air.

"When [Judge and Prins] get in within two feet of him—they both have their hands up trying to talk to him—and he just shoots them in cold blood," Brooks said. And then just walks off like nothing happened. Walked off like he was shopping at Walmart, right down the aisle. Put a shirt over his head so people couldn’t see him and just walked right off.

"They are definitely heroes," he added. Cont. (Video/Autoplay)

Treason! - Trump Asks Russia To Influence US Presidential Election

In an interview former CIA director Leaon Panetta says that orange hellscape is not fit to be President.

Donald J. Trump said on Wednesday that he hoped Russian intelligence services had successfully hacked Hillary Clinton’s email, and encouraged them to publish whatever they may have stolen, essentially urging a foreign adversary to conduct cyberespionage against a former secretary of state.

“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” Mr. Trump said during a news conference here in an apparent reference to Mrs. Clinton’s deleted emails. “I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.”

Mr. Trump’s call was another bizarre moment in the mystery of whether Vladimir V. Putin’s government has been seeking to influence the United States’ presidential race.

His comments came amid questions about the hacking of the Democratic National Committee’s computer servers, which American intelligence agencies have told the White House they have “high confidence” was the work of the Russian government. Cont. (Video/Autoplay)

Hiroshima City Laments Memorial Park Becoming A "Pokestop"

That's pretty dark, especially after introducing the new character, Hiroshimonchan. Story out of Tokyo, Japan:

“Pokemon Go” players are descending on an atomic bomb memorial park in Hiroshima, and officials of the western Japanese city are displeased.

They have asked game developer Niantic Inc. to remove the “Pokestops” and other virtual sites that show up in the park for those playing the augmented reality game. The city wants them deleted by Aug. 6, the anniversary of the 1945 bombing and the date of an annual ceremony to remember the victims.

It is unclear if and how the game developer will respond. Niantic offers a form to request exclusions, but it’s neither automatic nor guaranteed. Cont.

Parents Are Naming Their Kids After Pokemon GO Characters

Ladies and gentlemen, President Voltorb.

Pokemon Go has become a worldwide craze, and now it’s taking the parenting world by storm. That’s right – new moms and dads are actually naming their kids after the video game’s characters.

According to Baby Center, nearly 50 per cent of its users play Pokemon Go and have thus turned to the game for baby name inspiration.

Interestingly, the names parents are choosing aren’t as bad as you think. In fact, Pikachu isn’t in the Baby Center database at all (thank goodness). Instead, new moms and dads seem to veer towards sweet and only slightly quirky monikers from the video game.

The top Pokemon Go name for girls, for instance, is Roselia, which has risen 5,859 spots compared to last year. In case you’re wondering, Roselia is a thorn species of Pokemon often pictured with a red rose in its right hand and a blue rose in its left.

As for boys, many parents are choosing the name of the game’s most famous Pokemon trainer: Ash. This name rose 248 spots in the past year. Cont.

"Bizarre" - Gender Neutral Washrooms Confuse Republicans At DNC Convention

“We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.” - Benjamin Franklin

One of the bathrooms at the Democratic National Convention this week has been labeled an “all-gender restroom.” According to BuzzFeed, most people using the facility were unfazed by the experience, but a few members of the conservative press have been baffled about what they’re supposed to do.

Sarah Westwood of the Washington Examiner seemed to be unsure if she had a gender or not:

"Unnecessarily confusing bathroom situation here" - Sarah Westwood (@sarahcwestwood)

Westwood told ThinkProgress that her concern was pumping breast milk in a space in which her male coworkers could enter. She did not explain why the stall doors did not suffice to provide her with the privacy she desired like they would in any other restroom. She also did not seem to be aware that the convention center is equipped with two lactation suites specifically to meet her needs.

On Fox News, Tucker Carlson described the bathrooms as “bizarre” and “disgusting.” “I mean, I guess we’re liberated by this? Everyone should come visit one and see the reality of it. It’s unbelievable.”

Even though he’s not even in Philadelphia, North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R) even got in on the fun of mocking the restroom. Fresh off of losing his state the NBA All-Star Game because of his insistence on standing by HB2, which prohibits transgender people from using restrooms that match their gender, McCrory welcomed Donald Trump and Mike Pence to Winston-Salem Monday by pretending to give safety instructions to the crowd.

“If you need to leave suddenly, we’ve got exits this way, exits this way, and exits this way. And if any of you need to use the restrooms — [extended pause for laughter] — and if you have any questions, go to the Philadelphia convention where all the Democrats are.”

Sarah Wood wrote at the New Century Times what it was actually like to use the all-gender bathroom. “It was pretty much like every other bathroom experience, except for seeing a couple male faces,” she explained, “but we all kept to ourselves, as one does in any bathroom.” Cont.

Bangladeshi People Demand Action After Boy Killed With Air Compressor

Story out of Rupganj, Bangladesh:

Bangladesh police Monday arrested a spinning mill worker for allegedly torturing a nine-year-old boy to death with an air compressor, the second such incident in less than a year, officers said.

Sagar Barman died of internal injuries in a Dhaka hospital late on Sunday after his family alleges eight workers were involved in forcing the compressor into the boy's rectum and turning on the machine.

The boy also worked at the Zubaida Textile Mills in Rupganj town, just south of the capital, one of millions of child labourers in impoverished Bangladesh, many employed in hazardous industries.

"We have arrested the mill's assistant administrative officer. We've also launched a hunt for others accused including three production managers who were named in the case," Rupganj police chief Ismail Hossain told AFP.

Hours after the arrest, police also raided the mill, one of the country's largest, and rescued 27 child workers, many of them aged under 14, Hossain said.

The incident comes after a 13-year-old boy was killed in the same way last August in the southwestern city of Khulna, sparking furious protests demanding justice for the child. Cont.

Drunk Gamer Plows Car Into Game Company's HQ

Story out of Bundang-gu, South Korea:

The Korean games company Nexon is well-known for its very popular free-to-play games on both mobile platforms and PC. Their most well known titles being MapleStory, Dungeon Fighter Online, and most recently Dragon Nest. Its games haven’t kept all players happy, though.

Last Sunday, July 24, a car was driven into Nexon’s offices in South Korea at roughly 7am. The car smashed through the glass and ended up in the foyer. As it was a Sunday morning there was luckily nobody present to be hurt. The driver is a 33-year-old Chinese man who is in South Korea on a 3-month visitor permit. His blood alcohol was over the legal limit and the car had been borrowed from his brother who lives in South Korea. It’s not clear if he had permission to take the car or not, but either way he does not hold a driving license.

As to why the man, who’s surname is Lee, decided to drive a car into the building, he blames Nexon. Apparently he has become addicted to one or more of their free-to-play titles and believes they have ruined his life. He told police his decision to ram the building was done on impulse with the alcohol surely playing a big part in his decision to go for it.

Lee will now face multiple charges covering the damage to the building, dangerous driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving without a license. He’ll also need to pay to have the damage repaired, and will likely be deported back to China once this is over and possibly even after some jail time has been served. He’s very lucky no one was injured or even killed. Cont.

2-Year-Old Dies In Hot Car While Parents Attend Church

Way to look out Jesus, you jackass. Story out of Dallas, Texas:

A two-year-old boy has died in Texas after he was left in his parents' hot SUV while they were in church.

Dallas police said Boi Lei Sang was pronounced dead in hospital Sunday afternoon after he was found in the vehicle, according to The Associated Press.

The U.S. National Weather Service said the temperatures reached a high of 38 degrees Celsius.

Sang's family was at a bible study at the Rehoboth Praise Assembly in the city's White Rock neighbourhood, according to Fox 4.

His parents were in two separate study groups, a church member told the outlet, and when they met up again about 45 minutes later they realized the boy wasn't with their four other kids.

That was when the father ran out to their SUV to find the toddler unresponsive inside.

Church member Reng Om told WFAA that the boy wasn't moving when his father walked in from the Honda Pilot with him in his arms.

Om told NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth that most of the church's congregants are families from Burma and that the boy's father wanted to call 911 himself, but didn't speak English. Cont.

Mother leaves Her Baby In Hot Car To Eat Pizza

In her defense the motto of the pizza joint is, 'pizza so good you will try to murder your baby'. Story out of Jonesboro, Arkansas:

Police in northeast Arkansas cited a woman with child endangerment after they say she left her baby in a hot car while she went into a restaurant to eat pizza.

Officer Keith Baggett responded to a call of a baby left in a car at 3:25 Wednesday, according to KAIT. The heat index was 108 degrees (42 C) when Baggett arrived at Larry’s Pizza, and paramedics were examining the four-month-old girl.

KAIT reports the baby’s mother, 25-year-old Brittany N. Reeder, said the baby was asleep when she and her family arrived at the restaurant. She decided to leave the infant in the SUV.

Reeder called 911 after she went to check on the baby. She admitted the vehicle was not running and all the windows were rolled up.

“At the time of my call, the outside temperature was 96 degrees with a heat index of 108 degrees,” Baggett wrote in his report.

A registered nurse treating the infant reportedly told him the baby’s temperature was 99.9 degrees. It was approximately 45 minutes after the initial 911 call. Cont.

4 Adults Arrested For Punishing Children With Stun Gun

Story out of Polk County, Florida:

Polk County deputies arrested four adults on child abuse charges after deputies say they used a stun gun on children as discipline.

Eduardo Vazquez, 22,  William Torres-Morales, 22,  Elizabeth Tarvin, 33, and Veronica Sanchez, 32,  two sets of couples who live together, were all arrested on charges including aggravated child abuse, negligent child abuse and failure to report child abuse, among others.

The investigation was sparked by a Department of Children and Families referral on child abuse allegations that nine children between the ages of 7 to 13, were being disciplined by their guardians with a handheld stun gun.

Deputies said Torres originally said that the children had gotten their hands on the stun gun and were shocking each other, but then he told deputies he had lied and that he and Vasquez were using the stun gun on the children.

Torres said he and Vasquez made all the male children do pushups and every time one of the children couldn't do one, they would use the stun gun on the child, according to a news release. Cont.

Woman Sues Neighbours For Cooking Spicy Food

Oh, it's Saffron. Story out of London, England:

A woman is taking legal action in a bid to stop her neighbours cooking spicy food. Joanna Cridlin claims the ‘overwhelming pungent toxic fumes’ of ‘hot chillis’ from the flat below makes it difficult for her to breathe.

She says the smell ‘permeates her home’ in Wandsworth, south London for eight hours after her neighbours have finished cooking – describing it as ‘torture’. At times, she has ‘choked in her sleep’ and ‘staggered to her balcony gasping for air’ after the fumes brought on breathing problems.

She is now suing her neighbours’ landlord Viridian Housing to try to force them to take action. Legal papers state that her neighbours moved in three years ago, but the problems only began around Christmas 2014.

She is arguing that the smell should be classified as anti-social behaviour. Cont.

University Football Player Held At Gun Point By Police While Playing Pokemon GO

Surprised at how Tentacool this guy is with the whole situation. Story out of Iowa City, Iowa:

A University of Iowa football player says he was playing "Pokemon Go" in a public park when he was mistaken for a suspected bank robber, surrounded by police and searched at gunpoint.

Faith Ekakitie wrote on Facebook that he feared for his life Wednesday in Iowa City. He explained that a bank had been robbed nearby and that he matched the suspect's description of a "large black male, wearing all black, with something on top of his head." He said he was wearing goggles on his head at the time.

Ekakitie said he understands why police did what they did, and that he blames the media for fearing for his life. He said he had headphones in and didn't respond to police commands. He thanked Iowa City police for their professionalism.

A police spokesman chalks up the episode to "unfortunate timing."

Tensions between police and the African American community have been high in recent weeks, with a series of shootings of police officers, as well as unarmed black men by police. Cont.

Israeli Tourist Gang Raped In India

So India now is just a bunch of roaming animals in Tampa Bay Lightning shirts? Story out of New Delhi, India:

Police were questioning two men after gang rape of  25-year-old Israeli tourist who accepted a car ride while travelling in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.

The woman, who had been looking for a taxi, got into the car in the hill resort of Manali before dawn Sunday to travel to a nearby town, said Padam Chand, a police superintendent in Manali.

There were six men in the car and two of them raped the tourist after stopping at a desolate spot, he said. Two of the men were in police custody and a search was on for the other four.

Manali police were in touch with officials at the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi and were keeping them informed about the progress in the investigation.

The picturesque hill resorts of Himachal Pradesh are very popular with young Israelis who travel in India after their military service, despite concerns about the safety of women. Cont.

Towns Run By Polygamous Cults In Utah Found Guilty Of Discrimination, Told To Disband Police Forces

Latter that day they admitted the trial could have gone much worse and told their lawyer Elohim big time. Story out of Salt Lake City, Utah:

Federal prosecutors plan to bring a mix of law enforcement leaders and ex-sect members to a hearing in which they’ll ask a judge to disband the police department in a polygamous community on the Utah-Arizona border.

The disintegration of the town marshals is a proposed remedy after a jury concluded the sister towns of Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Arizona, violated the constitutional rights of nonbelievers by denying them basic government services such as police protection, building permits and water hookups.

The towns fiercely oppose the idea, saying problems at the agency don’t require such a drastic step.

The U.S. Department of Justice’s list of 17 possible witnesses for a four-day hearing set to begin Oct. 24 hearing in Phoenix, submitted this week, include four high-ranking leaders in the counties in Utah and Arizona that would assume policing duties under the proposal. Cont.

Two polygamous towns on the Utah-Arizona border violated the constitutional rights of nonbelievers by denying them basic services such as police protection, building permits and water hookups.

The civil rights trial marks one of boldest efforts by the government to confront what critics have long said was a corrupt regime in Colorado City, Arizona, and Hildale, Utah. The seven-week trial provided a rare glimpse into the communities that for years have been shrouded in secrecy and are distrustful of government and outsiders. Cont.

For Women, Working At Fox News Was A Nightmare

The above image was tweeted out then deleted after Twitter users called Fox out on their tone deafness.

The investigation by Fox News’s parent company, 21st Century Fox, focused narrowly on Mr. Ailes. But in interviews with The New York Times, current and former employees described instances of harassment and intimidation that went beyond Mr. Ailes and suggested a broader problem in the workplace.

The Times spoke with about a dozen women who said they had experienced some form of sexual harassment or intimidation at Fox News or the Fox Business Network, and half a dozen more who said they had witnessed it. Two of them cited Mr. Ailes and the rest cited other supervisors. With the exception of Ms. Bakhtiar, they all spoke on the condition of anonymity, citing embarrassment and fear of retribution. Most continue to work in television and worry that speaking out could damage their careers.

They told of strikingly similar experiences at Fox News. Several said that inappropriate comments about a woman’s appearance and sex life were frequent. Managers tried to set up their employees on dates with superiors.

One woman who is still there said that a producer of a show on which she frequently appeared persuaded her to go on dates with him. When she decided after two uneventful outings that she had had enough, he ceased to have her on his show, she said.

One former Fox News staff member described walking into a dark office in 2009 to find a senior manager receiving oral sex from a junior employee.

Female staff members told of problems with other supervisors as well. One current employee said that she was with a male supervisor in a closed-door, one-on-one meeting in 2009 when she asked to work on an assignment. He turned to her and said, “Sure,” then conditioned it on oral sex. The woman said she laughed it off, thinking that she would face retaliation and be demoted if she told him that the comment was inappropriate.

Almost all the women said they were reluctant to go to the human resources department with their complaints for fear that they would be fired. Some of the women said they went to their parents instead with their complaints. Cont.

Schoolboys Told They Can't Wear Shorts During Heatwave, Wear Skirts

Skirt those rules! Story out of Rottingdean, England:

A group of schoolboys were forbidden from wearing shorts in lessons – so, during last week’s heatwave, they took to coming to school in skirts instead.

Longhill High School in Rottingdean, close to Brighton, punished a number of boys earlier in the week for wearing shorts, which staff said were not an approved part of school uniform.

The following day four Year 9 students, Michael Parker, Kodi Ailing, George Boyland and Jesse Stringer decided to stand up against the ban by wearing girls’ school skirts.

Michael’s mother Angela Parker said: “We’re fully in support of them. I think what the headmistress is doing is discrimination and I’m extremely proud of Michael and his fellow protesters. It’s taken a heck of a lot for teenage boys to go to school wearing skirts.”

The boys were permitted to keep the skirts on on Thursday and Friday without punishment. Miss Williams said: “Students can choose to wear any part of the agreed school uniform.” Cont.
