Woman Arrested For Assault After Mocking Deaf Children

Story out of Surrey, British Columbia:

A Surrey woman is facing charges after an incident on the SkyTrain that started off with her mocking a group of deaf students on Wednesday.

Tamara Robertson, 46, has been arrested and charged after allegedly assaulting two SkyTrain passengers. Transit Police said in a press release that “[she] appeared to be intoxicated and was openly drinking alcohol on the train, while behaving in a loud and disorderly manner.”

It began when she boarded the SkyTrain at Commercial and Broadway Station and was seen mocking a group of young deaf students, who were communicating to each other in sign language.

“She ended up walking towards the group of kids…really drunk just mocking them basically trying to humiliate them”, said Nicole Charbonneau, 23. “I literally got sucker punched for saying back off and leave them alone.”

Charbonneau pushed the security button and the train came to a halt.

Robertson is appearing in Vancouver Provincial Court on Feb. 23. Until then, she is “prohibited from utilizing [the] SkyTrain on Saturdays and Sundays.” Cont. (Video)
