Bernie Supporter Threatens To Cut Out Congressman's Tongue For Endorsing Hilary Clinton

A Seattle man accused of threatening to cut out U.S. Rep. Jim McDermott’s tongue now faces felony charges.

King County prosecutors claim Jasper K. Bell made the threat because he was upset that McDermott, D-Seattle, was supporting Hilary Clinton for president. Currently jailed, Bell, 27, has been charged with intimidating a public servant and telephone harassment.

Bell had been fixated on McDermott for some time before the April 22 incident that saw him charged, Senior Deputy Prosecutor Susan Storey said in court paper. Bell is alleged to have made threatening calls to McDermott before arriving at his Seattle office that day.

“In one phone call he demanded the congressman’s home address and threatened to cut his tongue out,” Storey said in charging papers. “In another call he stated that the congressman would not be safe, even after he retires.” Cont.

Doctor Arrested After Being Caught Trading Pain Meds For Sex

Story out of Fairmont, West Virginia:

As of Thursday afternoon, Fairmont police had identified three women as victims of what they allege was a doctor’s scheme to trade pain prescriptions for sex.

And one of those women alleged she was victimized starting in 2013, or about two years after Fairmont’s Three Rivers Drug Task Force had asked the office of U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld II to pursue charges against Dr. Eugenio Menez. That’s according to Fairmont Police Lt. Douglas Yost and Chief Steve Shine.

Ihlenfeld’s office didn’t consider the evidence strong enough to seek a federal indictment, even though Fairmont police thought it was, Yost said.

The investigation wasn’t dead, but it was stalled.

But about a month ago, the woman who alleged she’d been victimized starting in 2013 came forward. That, Shine said, re-energized the investigation.

If convicted, Menez could face 1-15 years, and a fine of up to $25,000, on each count, the magistrate explained. Cont.

Christian Radio Host Threatens To Urinate On Floor Of Local Target

A hardline evangelical radio host has threatened to pee on the floor of his local Target because they let transgender people use the women’s bathrooms.

Rick Wiles, a self-proclaimed “citizen reporter” and host of ‘TruNews’, made the claims while ranting about Target’s transgender bathroom policy – which allows people to use the bathroom of their preferred gender.

Snyder read a statement from Target spokesperson Molly Snyder, who said: “As a company that firmly stands behind what it means to offer our team an inclusive place to work — and our guests an inclusive place to shop — we continue to believe that this is the right thing for Target.”

The statement pointed out that single-stall bathrooms were available, but Mr Wiles added: “How about I just urinate on your floor? How about that Molly? Because you’re defecating on this nation.” Cont.

Cop Sued For Filming Nude, Breast-Feeding Mother Through Baby Monitor

Story out of Hazel Park, Michigan:

In a bizarre peeping-Tom lawsuit involving an iPhone and a baby monitor,  a Hazel Park police officer is accused of  spying on a nude woman who was breast-feeding her infant son in the child's nursery.

But the officer was nowhere near the house when this happened, court records show.

According to the lawsuit filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court, Hazel Park officer Michael Emmi was watching the woman from his house using her fiance's iPhone, which had been seized in a drug case. That iPhone had access to the so-called Nest Cam baby monitor in the child's nursery, allowing the officer to see and hear the mother as she breast-fed her baby, the lawsuit states. Cont.

Man Wearing Hedgehog Costume, Bomb Made Of Candy, Shot By Police Outside TV Station

These Furries are taking there hobby too far. Story out of Baltimore Maryland:

A man claiming to have a bomb strapped to his chest threatened a Baltimore TV station Thursday afternoon, and was later shot by police after walking out of the building.

At around 10:30 p.m. WJZ spoke with a man who identified the suspect as his son, 25-year-old Alex Brizzi. Brizzi is at the hospital receiving treatment, and is in serious condition but expected to survive.

The explosive device Brizzi claimed to have when he walked into the Fox 45 building in the Woodberry section of Baltimore around 1:20 p.m. Thursday was actually chocolate candy bars wrapped in wires, with another device meant to look like a detonator running down his sleeve.

A security guard with Fox 45 tells WJZ reporter George Solis that Brizzi walked into the station wearing a hedgehog onesie outfit and medical mask, claiming he had a bomb.

Just after 3 p.m. the suspect walked out of the station, refusing to take his hands out of his pockets, according to Baltimore police.

Police spokesperson T.J. Smith says the suspect was then shot at least three times after refusing to cooperate. While on the ground after being shot, a police robot helped the department communicate with the man without getting too close to him, and helped them retrieve the item he had claimed was a bomb, which turned out to be a device made of candy bars, wires, a motherboard from a fire extinguisher and a flotation device. Cont. (Video/Autoplay)

Zika-Proof Olympic Uniforms Unveiled By South Korean Team

Story out of Seoul, South Korea:

South Korea's Olympic committee on Wednesday unveiled Zika-proof uniforms complete with mosquito repellent it says will help protect athletes from the virus at this year's games in Rio de Janeiro.

Mosquito-repellent chemicals were added to the outfits, which all include long pants, long-sleeved shirts and jackets. The uniforms will be worn by athletes during ceremonies, training and at the athletes' village, the Korean Olympic Committee said.

The committee said it couldn't make changes to the uniforms worn during competition because of strict rules and performance concerns, although athletes will be allowed to use anti-mosquito spray during competition.

Brazil has been fighting the spread of the Zika virus, which causes severe birth defects, including microcephaly, a condition in which a baby's head is significantly smaller than normal. The threat of Zika has emerged as a major concern in the buildup to this year's Olympics along with construction delays and the political turmoil in Brazil. Cont.

Man Detained After Urinating On Plane

Story out of Charlotte, North Carolina:

About an hour into a red-eye American Airlines flight from San Francisco to Charlotte on Saturday, a passenger pulled his pants down, arched his back, and began peeing on the floor of the airplane, according to an affidavit filed by the FBI Sunday.

Jordan Gardner, of Ludlow, Ky., was met by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police after the plane landed at 7:45 a.m. Sunday. He is being detained at Mecklenburg County Jail pending a hearing Thursday.

The passenger sitting next to Gardner summoned a flight attendant, who saw Gardner pulling up his pants, according to the report. The flight attendant sent him to the bathroom.

But after about 15 minutes, Gardner had not left the bathroom. When the flight attendant opened the door, she found him lying on the floor of the bathroom.

The FBI said Gardner has a multi-state criminal history, with charges and arrests for things such as battery, trespassing, auto theft, passing bad checks, being under the influence and vandalism. Cont.

Man Sues Snapchat After Woman Using App Causes Car Accident

Story out of Atlanta, Georgia:

Christal McGee was behind the wheel of her father’s white Mercedes, 18-years-old and on her way home from work on a Thursday night in September 2015, when she pulled out her phone and opened the app.

Snapchat has a filter that allows users to record their speed of travel, and she wanted to see how fast she could go. So McGee accelerated, then accelerated some more, reaching 113 miles per hour on a suburban road outside Atlanta where the speed limit is 55.

She didn’t see Maynard Wentworth, an Uber driver just starting his shift that night, until it was too late. She hit him at 107 miles per hour.

Wentworth suffered a traumatic brain injury and was hospitalized for months.

Now he and his wife are suing McGee — and Snapchat — for negligence. The narrative of that night is outlined in a civil complaint filed in Spalding County court last week, which alleges that Snapchat was equally responsible for the cause of the crash because the company did not delete the miles per hour filter from the app after it was cited in similar accidents prior to the September 2015 crash. Cont.

John McCain's Re-Election Fundraiser Arrested In Meth Lab Bust

Story out of Maricopa County, Arizona:

A woman listed as the RSVP contact for U.S. Sen. John McCain's re-election fundraisers was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of drug charges after Maricopa County sheriff's deputies found an active meth lab and other illicit drugs while conducting a search warrant at her north-central Phoenix home, officials said.

The Sheriff's Office identified one of two people arrested in the drug bust as 34-year-old Emily Pitha, a former member of the staff of retired U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., who most recently worked on GOP campaign fundraising.

A Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesman said authorities were first alerted to possible drug activity at Pitha's Phoenix home by a parcel in transit from the Netherlands containing over 250 grams of MDMA – raw ecstasy. Detective Doug Matteson, the MCSO spokesman, said Pitha's boyfriend, 36-year-old Christopher Hustrulid, signed for the packaged when it arrived at their doorstep Tuesday afternoon.

Detectives executing a search warrant at the home discovered an active meth lab, along with unspecified quantities of LSD, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, about $7,000 in loose currency, and counterfeit money, according to Matteson. A separate building on the property was found to have a hidden room that was to be used as a marijuana-grow facility, he said. Cont. (Video)

Crazy Right-Wing Radio Host Says Beyoncé Wants To Eat Children's Brains

Yesterday, conspiracy theorist broadcaster Alex Jones claimed that Beyoncé's new album, "Lemonade," was part of an attempt by the CIA to promote violence and attacks on the police, which would in turn allow the federal government to take control over local police forces.

He expounded on this theory in an interview yesterday with far-right pastor James David Manning, urging parents to make sure that their kids aren’t exposed to Beyoncé because she intends to eat their brains.

“I’m pro-human so I say, black people, especially, stop killing your kids and get them in church, whatever, take them away from Beyoncé, who wants to eat their brain with the CIA, literally,” Jones said, adding: “Obama literally is the killer of black people and they love him.” Cont.

Woman Struck By Train Dies While Looking For Kentucky’s ‘Goatman’

The legend has it that the Pope Lick Monster will goat (get it?) people into climbing the bridge and has taken numerous lives over the years. It's amazing how morons keep a legend alive. Story out of Louisville, Kentucky:

By the time the young couple spotted the locomotive, bearing down the railroad trestle at over 30 miles an hour, they had no choice.

Facing an 8-story drop on either side, with no way to outrun the train to the trestle’s end, the pair’s only hope was to cling to the sides of the tracks. The engineer later told officials, as the Kentucky newspaper the Courier-Journal reports, that he blared his horn and tried to slow down. Though the man on the tracks managed to make the split-second dive to the edge, the train was traveling too fast for his companion — there simply wasn’t enough time.

The train fatally struck Roquel Bain, a 26-year-old from Dayton, Ohio. She fell, some 100 feet to the ground.

Bain and her boyfriend, whose name has not yet been released by authorities, had traveled to Kentucky for an innocent bit of thrill-seeking  — a tour of Waverly Hills Sanatorium, a former tuberculosis clinic turned haunted house. While in Louisville, they caught wind of another occult story, one which they decided to investigate in the twilight hours before their tour: the Pope Lick Monster.

Also known as the Goatman or the Sheepman, the Pope Lick Monster isn’t an icon of North American cryptozoology, lacking the national recognition of furry giants Bigfoot and Sasquatch. Still, within the confines of the woods surrounding Louisville, the creature has accumulated a rich history of lore and legend. Cont.

Mother Fatally Shot In Back By 2-Year-Old While Driving

Story out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin

A 2-year-old boy fatally shot his mother from the backseat of the car as she drove along a Milwaukee highway, relatives said Wednesday.

Antonio Price said investigators told him that his sister Patrice was driving with her two sons, ages 1 and 2, riding in the backseat Tuesday when she was shot. Price said authorities told him the older boy fired the gun.

Milwaukee County sheriff's department said in a statement that a 26-year-old woman was shot once in the back while driving on Highway 175 about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and that the shooter appeared to have been a child in the backseat. The department did not identify the woman nor explain the relationship between her and the child.

Putnam County sheriff's officials said the boy had recently learned how to unbuckle himself. He climbed out of his seat, picked up the gun and fired through the front seat, hitting his mother in the back, investigators said. Cont.

Skull Found In New Jersey During Earth Day Cleanup

Story out of Pennsauken, New Jersey:

An Earth Day effort to clean up a trash-ridden New Jersey river took a grisly turn when a volunteer uncovered a human skull.

Volunteers on Saturday were cleaning up the Cooper River in Pennsauken Township, across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, when one of them reached for what he thought was a white milk jug but turned out to be an intact human skull, according to Kelly Offner, cleanup program coordinator with outdoor apparel company United by Blue.

The volunteer who found the skull was knee-deep in mud in the tidal river when it was found, said Offner, who was also there. Volunteers marked the site by putting a glove on top of a stick nearby and called the police, she said.

"Keep Our State Straight" - Maniac Republican Tells Crowd In Favour Of N.C. Hate Bill

"Lets keep North Carolina white, I mean straight, yeah straight." - Buck Newton, probably. Story out of Raleigh, North Carolina:

If state Sen. Buck Newton (R) has his way, North Carolina will be known as the “straight” state.

“Go home, tell your friends and family who had to work today what this is all about and how hard we must fight to keep our state straight,” Newton said at a rally Monday, according to video posted by Progress North Carolina Action.

Newton was speaking at a rally for supporters of a controversial state law that bars transgender people from using the bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity rather than with the gender assigned to them at birth. It also bans cities and localities from passing strong nondiscrimination protections that cover sexual orientation and gender identity.

Supporters of the new law say it’s needed to stop sexual predators from dressing up and entering women’s restrooms.

But sexual assault — even in a women’s restroom — is still illegal, with or without strong gender identity protections. And states with such protections have not seen a rise in such crimes. Transgender people, however, are far more likely to be harassed in restrooms. Cont. (Video)

Republicans In Missouri Spend $8.3 Million Dollars To Block Planned Parenthood From Collecting $400,000

It doesn't matter how many groups conservatives lose the will to pick on, they will always have their go-to scapegoat, women. Story out of Jefferson City, Missouri:

Missouri lawmakers passed a budget last week that spends millions in state money to block Planned Parenthood from accessing federal funding.

The plan puts Missouri alongside at least a dozen other states in a national effort to strip public money from the country’s largest abortion provider. The federal government says states don’t have the authority to steer Medicaid funding away from Planned Parenthood, and courts have blocked some of those efforts.

But Missouri’s budget writers say eliminating federal dollars from women’s health programs means federal restrictions no longer apply.

The Legislature rejected more than $8.3 million in federal Medicaid funding the state was slated to receive for family planning, sexually transmitted disease testing and pelvic exams at county health departments, other clinics and Planned Parenthood.

They replaced it with money from Missouri’s general revenues, leaving the total unchanged at $10.8 million, and stipulated that none of it could go to organizations that provide abortions, as Planned Parenthood does.

When lawmakers initially proposed blocking Medicaid payments from Planned Parenthood in March, budget staffers estimated less than $400,000 in Medicaid payments go to Missouri’s 13 Planned Parenthood clinics for procedures and drugs. Cont.

Cop Severs Man's Artery After Falsely Accusing Him Of Stealing Tomato

If it was an apple he'd be dead now. Story out of Atlanta, Georgia:

A local man said an off-duty police officer working security for Walmart severely beat him after he was falsely accused of stealing a tomato.

After he was handcuffed to his hospital bed with a broken leg and severed artery, Tyrone Carnegay told Channel 2’s Craig Lucie he spent three days in jail and the charges were dropped.

In security video the officer is seen confronting Carnegay as he is walking out of the store.

The officer is then seen suddenly pulling out his baton and then beating Carnegay for stealing a tomato, which he said he paid for.

He said the officer never asked for a receipt or told him why he was questioning him.

Doctors said the repeated blows cracked two bones in Carnegay’s right leg and ruptured an artery.

According to a lawsuit Lucie obtained, the Walmart manager told the officer that Carnegay stole a tomato in the October 2014 incident.

Carnegay said after he was on the ground in handcuffs, the officer reached into his pocket found his receipt, which he said showed he paid for the tomato.

"You're A Dictator" - Counsel Meeting Breaks Out In Violence

I know you are, but what am I? Takes one to know one. Story out of Alexander city, Alabama:

A physical fight broke out amongst Alexander City's governing body during Monday evening's council meeting.

The fight was between Mayor Charles Shaw and Councilman Tony Goss. Both men gave AL.com their accounts of what happened.

Goss said Shaw tried to call an executive session Monday to address firing the city's finance director, Sandra Machen, but the council president denied the request. Shaw said he has no authority to call an executive session, and it was a council member who did so.

Goss said Shaw got mad at the denial and retrieved an email in which Goss said something disparaging about him. He said an argument soon followed with Goss shouting, "You're a dictator," and Shaw responding, "You're a liar."

How the argument turned physical is in dispute. Goss said he tried to apologize to some state auditors who were present when Shaw went over and punched him in the face. He said he punched back. Cont.

Umer Hayat bought five kilograms (about 11 pounds) of laddu, a ball-shaped confection of dough and sugar, from Tariq Hotel & Sweet in the village of Karor Lal Esan, said Layyah District Coordination Officer Rana Gulzar. The village, in the Layyah district of Punjab province, sits about 400 kilometers (250 miles) west of Lahore.

The sweets were to celebrate the birth of Hayat's grandson, Abdullah, but recipients of the treats began falling ill Thursday, Gulzar said.

Hayat is in critical condition in a hospital, and six brothers, one sister and two children in his family have died after eating the laddu. The newborn's father, Muhammad Sajjad, is among the ill.

Investigators say the shopkeeper's servant has acknowledged he accidentally mixed pesticide into the laddu, Gulzar said. Cont.

Lawyer Threatens To Take Gun Into Washrooms For Protection Against Transsexuals

How was this peaceful champion of the Lord able to survive all these years not taking a gun into bathrooms:

One of the lawyers who represented Kim Davis is taking a Glock handgun into the women’s toilets, just in case there are any transgender women in there.

Anita Staver, the president of the right-wing Liberty Counsel which represented Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, tweeted that she will take a handgun into public toilets in future after Target affirmed a trans-inclusive bathroom policy.

Ms Staver tweeted: “I’m taking a Glock .45 to the ladies room. It identifies as my bodyguard. #BoycottTarget”. Cont.

"Part-Kenyan" - Mayor Of London Insults President Obama

Somebodies not going to be invited to the white houses' pot luck.

Boris Johnson is the mayor of London and an influential conservative within the Tory party. The UK’s equivalent to the Tea Party, Tories are well-known for their stubborn disposition and unwillingness to listen to facts. They can’t be reasoned with other than to agree that all Muslims are evil and immigration must be stopped. They are, in essence, the Republicans of the UK.

Johnson, speaking about the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union, decided to toss President Obama into the mix, insinuating that his state trip has ulterior motives. The article, which made a reference to Mr. Obama allegedly removing a bust of Winston Churchill from the White House’s Oval Office, said: “Some said it was a symbol of the part-Kenyan president’s ancestral dislike of the British empire – of which Churchill had been such a fervent defender.”

Members of his own party and liberal Labour partiers alike jumped immediately to condemn Johnson’s remarks, calling them racist and offensive. UK leadership in general had issues with how insensitive Johnson had been. Cont.

Russia's Military Bought 5 Bottlenose Dolphins, Why Not?

It's nothing shady going on, Putin just wants to have sex with them. Story out of Moscow, Russia:

When governments award military contracts it's usually so they can obtain equipment such as guns, missiles and aircraft engines.

But this week Russia's Ministry of Defense bought some dolphins — and it won't explain why.

The ministry will pay $26,000 for the animals, at a price of 350,000 rubles ($5,200) per mammal, according to official records.

It put the contract to supply the dolphins out to tender, but Moscow's Utrish Dolphinarium was the only bidder before the process closed Tuesday, according to the Russian website for state tenders.

The dolphinarium pledged that by August 1 it will supply three male and two female dolphins aged 3-to-5 years old, "with all teeth intact ... [and] no mucus from the blowhole," the website said.

The state tender does not shed light on why Russia's military — in command of one of the world's most powerful armies — needs bottlenose dolphins. Cont.

Middle School Choir Told To Stop Singing U.S. Anthem At 9/11 Memorial

Story out of New York City, New York:

Officials at the Sept. 11 memorial said Monday that one of their security guards shouldn't have stopped a North Carolina middle school choir from singing the national anthem on the memorial plaza.

"The guard did not respond appropriately," said the spokeswoman, Kaylee Skaar. "We are working with our security staff to ensure that this does not happen again with future student performances."

Some 50 students from Waynesville Middle School in western North Carolina were at the Sept. 11 memorial Wednesday and had just started singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" when a guard told them to stop.

Teacher Martha Brown said Monday that a different security guard had given the OK for her students to sing. But the second guard said, "You just can't do this. You've got to stop now," Brown said. "So we very reverently and quietly stopped what we were doing and complied with his request and quietly exited the park." Cont.

Coast Guard Ends Bubble Man's Ocean Marathon For A Second Time

Story out of Pompano Beach, Florida:

After only two days of an endurance running feat that would have taken him past the Bahamas, Haiti and Cuba afloat in a handcrafted bubble, ultra marathoner Ray "Reza" Baluchi has ended his trek on the advice of authorities.

Ray "Reza" Baluchi left from Pompano Beach on Friday and was picked up Sunday by the U.S. Coast Guard near Fort Pierce, cutting short what was planned to be a five-month journey.

The Coast Guard said a crew saw Baluchi about 7 miles off the coast of Jupiter about 2 a.m. Sunday. The crew followed Baluchi "to ensure his safety and to prevent other vessels from colliding with the hydro pod," a Coast Guard news release said.

Baluchi voluntarily ended the trip and went aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Gannet with his hydro pod in tow, offiicals said.

Baluchi had made a similar attempt in October 2014. The Coast Guard rescued him about 70 miles off St. Augustine. That cost more than $140,000, Coast Guard officials said. Cont.

Lawyer Sues Restaurant For Running Out Of Soup

How would you like having this guy representing you, he seems to have his priorities in place. Story out of Mansfield, Texas:

A local attorney is threatening to sue a Mansfield restaurant after it failed to serve him soup.

The owner of “Our Place” restaurant, Benji Arslanovski, posted a picture of the letter on Facebook. “I just couldn’t believe it. I just kind of wanted to see what everyone else’s reaction was,” he says.

Written by attorney Dwain Downing, the letter demands $2.25 in damages and $250 in “attorney’s fees” for writing the letter. Arslanovski said soup is complimentary with lunch for as long as it’s available, but Saturday the restaurant ran out.

Over the phone, Downing told CBS11 he arrived around 2 o’clock and ordered the Saturday special, which includes an entrée, two sides, bread, and a cup of soup for $7.95. When the restaurant said it was out of soup, he asked them to substitute an extra side dish or discount the meal, but was denied.

“I don’t think it’s right for someone to advertise one thing and not follow through with it,” he told CBS11. “If I didn’t do it, no one else would.”

Arslanovski, though, is stunned. “The meal comes with two sides already. The soup is just a free cup of soup,” said Arslanovski. Cont. (Video/Autoplay)

During his second-round match against American Donald Young, Medvedev lost the match instantly when handed an unsportsmanlike conduct default for appearing to say something to chair umpire Sandy French.

The crowd had no idea what had just happened. “Unsportsmanlike conduct. Default Medvedev,” French told the crowd through her chair umpire microphone. “Game. Set. Match. Young. 4-1. Default.”

(Moron) - Man Threatens On Twitter To Bomb Trump Rally, Arrested

Story out of Waterbury, Connecticut:

A 20-year-old man is facing charges after authorities say he tweeted out a bomb threat during a Donald Trump rally in Connecticut on Saturday.

Connecticut State Police say the U.S. Secret Service contacted them Saturday afternoon after they say Sean Morkys posted on Twitter, “Is someone going to bomb the trump rally or am I going to have to?”

Police say that tweet was followed by another warning (to) a friend to have his family members leave the rally so they wouldn’t get hurt.

Authorities tracked the tweets to a Waterbury home, where they found Morkys. After determining he didn’t pose an immediate threat, he was taken into custody and released on $25,000 bond. Cont.

Man Dies After Luggage Cart He Was Driving Flips Over

Story out of Toronto, Ontario:

An employee at Toronto Pearson International Airport died Friday night after the luggage cart he was driving rolled over and ejected the man onto the tarmac, Peel police say.

The victim was Ian Henry Pervez, 24, according to his family. Tributes began pouring in for him online, one calling him "a gem and a great son" in his church community.

A police spokesman said Pervez was driving the luggage cart when it rolled over and he was thrown to the tarmac around 11 p.m.. An airport spokeswoman confirmed that the victim was an Air Canada employee, but she could not say what safety regulations are typically in place for luggage handlers.

Union representative Bill Trbovich said that Pervez has been working for Air Canada for about nine months. He couldn't say whether the union had any safety concerns, saying that they would need to learn what led to the workplace fatality first.

The federal Transportation Safety Board may also investigate what happened, depending on whether an aircraft was in any way involved, an official told CBC. Cont.

British Astronaut Completes London Marathon In Space

26.2 miles and travelled twice around the planet ... I think he won.

The treadmill turned and the timer began. It was 10am on Sunday morning in London and as tens of thousands of runners set out on the marathon below, the British astronaut Tim Peake broke into his stride on board the International Space Station. He was somewhere over the Pacific Ocean.

Dressed in a red vest and black shorts, with the union flag hoisted behind him, Peake’s run took him into the world record books as the first man to complete a marathon in space. He finished in three hours, 35 minutes and 21 seconds. In the time he had taken to pound out 26.2 miles, he had travelled more than twice around the planet.

“This morning was fantastic,” he said on the phone to his medical support crew at the European Space Agency’s astronaut centre in Cologne. Moments earlier, he had completed the distance, thrown his hands in the air in triumph and taken a long, hard drink from a water pouch he had velcroed to the wall above his head. Then came the double thumbs up to the camera. Cont.

Trump Institute Once Fired Afganistan Veteran For Being Deployed, Missing Work

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has been vocal about the need to take care of U.S. veterans. He’s said that if elected, he’ll “put our service men and women on a path to success as they leave active duty.”

But that’s not what the Trump Institute, a get-rich-quick real estate seminar, did for Richard Wright, a senior master sergeant in the Air Force reserves who worked for the company in 2006 and 2007. Wright was deployed to Afghanistan in the spring of 2007. When he came home to his job, the Trump Institute fired him. “All of your absences,” Wright’s boss at the Trump Institute told him, had forced the company to “reevaluate your position with the Trump Institute.” It is a violation of federal law to penalize an employee for absences caused by military service. Cont. (Video)

Texas GOP Sheriff Candidate Encourages Violence Against Transgender People

Where was this murderous rage before these bills were passed? It's very typical of guys like this and posters online that LGBT or any other minority group came into existence when they gave them a thought.

Tracy Murphree, the GOP candidate for Denton County sheriff, posted on Facebook that he’d beat the hell out of a transgender person who tried to piss in a bathroom where Murphree’s daughter was peeing.

“This whole bathroom thing is craziness I have never seen,” Murphree wrote in an April 22 Facebook post. “All I can say is this: If my little girl is in a public women’s restroom and a man, regardless of how he may identify, goes into the bathroom, he will then identify as a John Doe until he wakes up in whatever hospital he may be taken to. Your identity does not trump my little girl's safety. I identify as an overprotective father that loves his kids and would do anything to protect them” Cont.

8 Family Members Murdered In 4 Different Locations

Story out of Pike County, Ohio:

The Rev. Phil Fulton knew some of the eight family members who were shot dead near his rural southern Ohio community this week. The victims' shaken relatives, he says, are asking roughly the same question as police: Who would do this?

The eight members of Rhoden family -- including a mother who investigators say was killed while her 4-day-old child lay beside her -- were found dead Friday at four crime scenes, authorities said. The newborn, along with a 6-month-old and a 3-year-old, survived.

The mystery of who killed the eight has not only moved people living in the area of Piketon, a town of about 2,000 residents 90 miles east of Cincinnati, but also drawn the attention of top state officials.

Officers are searching for the killer or killers, who are probably armed and a danger to surviving family members, Pike County Sheriff Charles Reader said Friday.

"We have a specific family that's been targeted but I don't think there's been a threat to any other members of the community," he said. "I've given the family precautionary measures to make. They know we're available." Cont. (Video/Autoplay)

Prom Shooting Leaves Two Hurt, Gunman Dead

Story out of Antigo, Wisconsin:

An 18-year-old man opened fire with a high-powered rifle outside of a high school prom in northern Wisconsin, wounding two students before a police officer who was in the parking lot fatally shot him, authorities said Sunday.

Investigators did not say whether they believe the two students were specifically targeted or discuss a possible motive for the shooting outside Antigo High School late Saturday. But a school administrator said it appeared that the gunman — identified by police as Jakob E. Wagner — intended to go into the dance and start shooting randomly.

The two prom-goers who were wounded were shot as they exited the building, according to Eric Roller, the chief of police in Antigo, a community of about 8,000 people roughly 150 miles north of Milwaukee.

"Officers were in the parking lot patrolling the activities and heard the shots and an officer immediately fired upon the shooter, stopping the threat," Roller said. He said the gunman was then taken into custody. Wagner died at a hospital.

In a statement, the Unified School District of Antigo said Wagner approached the school with a high-powered rifle and a large ammunition clip. The district said the "quick actions" taken by police and district staff to secure the building "prevented what might have otherwise been a disaster of unimaginable proportions." Cont.

Judge Spends Night With Veteran Suffering PTSD After Sentencing Him To 24 Hours In Jail

Story out of Fayetteville, North Carolina:

Standing before Judge Lou Olivera was a retired Special Forces Green Beret sergeant who was in Cumberland County veterans court on April 12 for violating probation.

"Every two weeks we go to veterans court, and my urinalysis test had come back positive," Joe Serna, 41, says. "I denied it at first."

But Serna later came clean and told the judge he had been dishonest with the court.

Olivera sentenced Serna to a night in lockup and told him to report back to court the next day for incarceration.

Olivera had hoped to have Serna serve his time in a holding cell at the Fayetteville Police Department, but Chief Harold Medlock told the judge the cell is now used for storage.

"But I'm friends with the chief of police in Lumberton and called him, and he said he would call the Sheriff's Office and they were willing to do it," Medlock says.

Serna reported for his punishment, where he was met by the judge.

"When Joe first came to turn himself in, he was trembling," says Olivera, a veteran, too, who served in the Gulf War. "I decided that I'd spend the night serving with him."

Mostly, from five in the afternoon on April 13 until 6:30 a.m. the next day, the judge and the veteran talked about their respective military service, Serna's post-traumatic stress disorder from three tours of duty in Afghanistan and how the inmate could turn around his downward spiral that had resulted in a driving-while-impaired charge and other serious traffic offenses. Cont.

Child Services Called On Woman For Letting Her Children Play In Their Own Yard

Story out of Winnipeg, Manitoba:

A Winnipeg woman says she was reported to and investigated by Child and Family Services simply for letting her children play in her backyard.

Jacqui Kendrick, a stay-at-home mom, says a CFS worker showed up unexpectedly in early April, saying they had received a complaint about her children being unsupervised.

Kendrick has three children ages two, five and 10, and says they often played in her fenced-in backyard after school.

Kendrick says she’s either with them or watching them from her living room, though she says her oldest child also helps out by looking after her younger siblings.

But she says because a file has been created, she’s worried that any future complaints could end up with her children being taken from her.

She also says the grilling she underwent from the CFS worker left her in tears.

Winnipeg psychologist Dr. Toby Rutner says children should be as independent as their abilities allow.

He says with increased use of the Internet, “it has created a situation where everyone feels entitled to give an opinion, but this approach that says everyone’s opinion is equal in value.”

He calls the case common passive-aggressive behaviour; where in the past, concerned neighbours would have had to knock on someone’s door, now they can make an anonymous complaint. Cont.

A Leading Orthodox Rabbi Rules Marijuana Kosher

"You know, it's a funny thing, every one of the bastards that are out for legalizing marijuana are Jewish. What the Christ is the matter with the Jews, Bob? What is the matter with them? I suppose it is because most of them are psychiatrists." - Richard Nixon - Wikiquote

Getting baked on Passover is no longer just for matzah, a leading Orthodox rabbi ruled, after sniffing (but not smoking) some cannabis leaves recently.

Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, widely considered the leading living ultra-Orthodox halachic authority, ruled that marijuana is kosher for Passover and can be either eaten or smoked over the eight-day Jewish festival, during which strict dietary laws apply, according the pro-Cannabis online magazine cannabis.org.il.

Kanievsky gave the ruling in response to a question from the pro-marijuana group Siach, meaning both plant and conversation.

Kanievky stipulated that in normal circumstances the plant is considered a member of the kitniyot group of legumes and pulses that are banned on Passover among Jews of Ashkenazi origin. But, he said, if used for medical purposes, cannabis is permitted for Jews from all backgrounds. Cont. (Video)

Meth Head Tips Prostitute With "Gooey" The Bush Baby

Story out of Eugene, Oregon:

An Oregon man robbed his own pet store in Eugene and used one of the items, a nocturnal primate, to give to a prostitute as a tip.

According to Eugene police, a burglary was reported at the Zany Zoo pet store on two days in March. The store is owned by Nathan Allen McClain.

Girl Scout cookie money, a laptop and a Galago primate named “Gooey” were stolen, police said. Galagos are also known as “bush babies” and are native to Africa.

On March 17, police found Gooey with an out-of-town prostitute at a hotel in the Eugene area.

Then, on March 19, Oregon State Police arrested McClain in the parking lot of the OSP office in Albany because he walked out of a porn shop next door to the police department and was apparently under the influence of methamphetamine.

Police said McClain robbed his own store, paid for sex with the prostitute with the Girl Scout money then gave her Gooey as a tip. Cont. (Video/Autoplay)
